Ruth Karnatz was born on March 9, 1904 in Santa Ana, California and passed to her rest on October 26, 1993 in Loma Linda, California. Ruth was a positive, optimistic individual, proving the power of a positive attitude and its influence on longevity. Ruth was healthy and quick-witted until the day she died......all 89 years.
Ruth, one of 11 children, was born and reared in the Santa Ana area at the time when southern California and Orange County were made up of rural farms and small towns. It was a good time to be alive. She gained all her formal education in public school graduating from Santa Ana High School in 1922.
Ruth met and married Otto Henry Karnatz in 1926. To this marriage was born 5 children....4 while living in California and 1 after moving to Kansas. Two children have preceded her in death --son, Raymond; daughter, Patty Lee. Those who survive her are:
Sisters: Esther Maddox
Irene Kearns All of California
Pricilla Verbesky
Son: Otto Henry Karnatz, Jr. (Tennessee)
Daughter: Betty Spady (Tennessee)
Daughter: Irene Lorey (California)
13 grandchildren
18 great grandchildren
1 great, great grandchild (She has lived to see
them all)
Ruth lived in an age when being a housewife and full time mother was still in vogue. And she met the challenge. She was able to devote full time to her childrens training and proper up bringing. One incident shared illustrates the point:
While growing up, Irene recalls her mother
taking the younger children out to the
Kansas country side on Sabbath and creating
an inspiring Sabbath School and Church for
them so the day could be remembered as
a special times. (This was due to the fact
that there was no pastor available in the area)
Ruth and Otto moved from the Santa Ana community to Kansas in 1937. It was here that Irene was born. They lived and worked in Kansas until 1955. Then it was on to Tennessee and a new experience. In 1967, they moved west to Arizona. It was here that Ruths' husband passed away in 1970. Ruth was now free to return to her birthplace - California. She came back in 1970 and lived here until her death.
Her cremation was buried on top of Patty Lee Karnatz grave on June 12, 1995, at Burr Oak Cemetery, Jewell Co., Kansas
