    Mrs. Katherine Harr of Cleveland Dies; Has 151 Descendants.
    Mrs. Katherine Harr, 97, Cleveland, in declining health since last November, died Tuesday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Katherine Bitz, Cleveland. She leaves 151 descendants. Funeral services will be at the Cleveland Seventh-day Adventist Church at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with Elders K.D. Johnson, H.I. Jarnes and R.D. Steinke officiating. Burial will take place in the Medina Seventh-day Adventist cemetery. She was born Nov. 27, 1863, in South Russa, where she received her education. Her marriage to Daniel Harr took place in Russia Dec. 25, 1883, and in 1890 they came to the United States and settled north of Cleveland where they resided since. For the past seven years she had lived with Mrs. Katherine Bitz. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church at Cleveland. She is survived by seven sons, Jacob, Richland, Wash.; Daniel Jr., Walla Walla, Wash.; Albert, Seattle, Wash.; Henry, West Lynn, Ore.; George, Billings, Mont.; Emanuel, Napoleon and Pete, Jamestown; three daughters, Mrs. Albert Bietz (Rose), Lincoln, Neb.; Mrs. Emanuel Haas (Lydia) and Mrs. Katherine Bitz of Cleveland; 45 grandchildren, 96 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her husband in 1946, a daughter, two sons, two brothers and two sisters. The body is at the Eddy Funeral Chapel

    JAMESTOWN, N.D. - Jacob J. Harr, 87, formerly of this area, died Tuesday at Richland, Wash. The funeral will be here at 3:30 Monday in Eddy Chapel. Mr. Harr was born in Russia April 3, 1886, and came to this country in 1892, settling in South Dakota. He later moved to Wishek, N.D., and then homesteaded at Cleveland, N.D. He married Anna Oswald Jan. 27, 1908. After farming at Cleveland, the couple moved to Jamestown where he was employed by the state hospital here. They moved to Washington in 1951. His wife died in 1962. He leaves seven sons and daughters, Mrs. Hugh (Clara) Schmitz, Beach, ND.; Mrs. Harold (Della) Ruddy and Donald, both Jamestown; Mrs. Sam (Leora) Thompson, Richland; Norman, Yakima, Wash.; Oliver, Mandan, ND.; Mrs. Wilbert (Katherine) Stroh, Sanborn, N.D. Funeral services were held on Sunday at the home and interment was made in the cemetery near Cleveland, North Dakota

    OBITUARY
    George Harr, 76, of Billings, Mont., former resident of the Cleveland community died this morning at Jamestown Hospital. He had been visiting his sisters and brothers in this area since August. Funeral services have been set for Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., in the Eddy Funeral Chapel with Pastor D.E. Howe and Pastor Ben Trout of the North Dakota Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Seventh-day Adventist cemetery in Medina. Born Jan. 5, 1890, in Russia, Mr. Harr was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Harr Sr. While still an infant he came to the United States in 1890 with his parents who settled on a farm near Wishek. He attended school in that area before moving with his family to a farm north of Cleveland, where he again attended rural schools. He attended high school at Sheyenne River Academy in Harvey and also in Fargo. Mr. Harr was employed as a barber for several years in Montana. His marriage to Clarabelle Anderson took place in Great Falls, Mont., in 1940. He was engaged in business in Livingston and Great Falls, and for the past nine years Mr. and Mrs. Harr have made their home in Billings. He is survived by his wife; and nine brothers and sisters, Jacob Harr, Yakima, Wash,; Mrs. Katherine Bitz and Mrs. Emanuel E.     The funeral for Katherine Bitz, 99, Jamestown, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Cleveland Seventh-day Adventist Church, with the Rev. Allen Myers officiating. burial will be in the Medina Seventh-day Adventist Cemetary. .. She died Tuesday. Katherine Harr was born April 1, 1891, near Wishek, and attended school near Cleveland. She was the daughter of Daniel and Katherina (Mauch) Harr. She married John A. Bitz March 10, 1913, in Jamestown. They lived on a farm near Cleveland until retiring abnd moving into Cleveland. He died in 1946. In the early 1970s, she moved to Jamestown, wehre she had been a resident of Hi-Acres manor Nursing Center since 1988. Survivors include two daughters, Ethel Gallagher and Virginia Job, both Jamestown; two sisters, Rose Bietz, Lincoln, Neb.; and Lydia Haas, Boise, Idaho; 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, one son, one daughter, one great-granddaughter, one sister, nine brothers, and her parents

    Daniel Harr, 81, of Walla Walla, Wash., former resident of the Woodworth community, died Thursday in Jamestown Hospital. He had been visiting relatives and friends here. Funeral services will be held Sunday noon in the Eddy Funeral Chapel with Pastor Elmer Haas officiating. The body will be taken to Walla Walla for interment at College Place, Wash. Born Dec. 27, 1892, in McIntosh County, N.D., Mr. Harr was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Harr. In May, 1900, he moved with his parents to Valley Springs Township and he attended school there and in Deear Lake Township. He farmed for a time with his parents. His marriage to Emma Hieb took place Feb. 14, 1918, at Jamestown, and they farmed in Valley Springs Township until 1931, when they moved to Wadsworth Township, near Woodworth. In 1944, they moved to Walla Walla, Wash., where Mr. Harr worked in a cannery, and later as a gardener until his retirement. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in College Park, Wash. Mr. Harr is survived by his wife; six children, Leander Harr, Woodworth; Ervin Harr, Indio, Calif., Raymond Harr, Placerville, Calif., Elmer Harr, Montesano, Calif.; Mrs. Glen Tower (Carol), Redding, Calif., and Gerald Harr, Seattle, Wash.; 28 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters, Mrs. Katherine Bitz, Mrs. E.E.     The funeral for Lydia Haas, 97, Portland, Ore., formerly Jamestown, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Jamestown Seventh-day Adventist Church, with the Rev. Stanley Teller and Robert Liebelt officiating. Burial will be in Seventh-day Adventist Cemetery, Medina. Visitation will be until 9 p.m. Friday at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, and one hour before services at the church. She died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1992, in Portland. Lydia Harr was born Dec. 29, 1894, in McIntosh County, the daughter of Daniel and Catherine (Mouch) Harr. She moved with her parents to Cleveland when she was six years old. She attended school near Cleveland. She married Emanuel Haas March 20, 1917, in Jamestown. They farmed near Cleveland until 1974, when they retired and moved to Jamestown. He died in 1984. She moved to Boise, Idaho, where she lived with her daughter. She later moved to Portland. She was a member of the Jamestown Seventh-day Adventist Church. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn Mable and Gus Rosin, Boise, and Lillian and Kenneth Jonietz, Mankato, Minn.; a son and daughter-in-law, Elmer and Van, Gladstone, Ore.; 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rose Bietz, Lincoln, Neb. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons, Virgil and Lloyd

He moved to the Northwest as a young adult and worked at various jobs before becoming an insurance adjuster. He worked for Adjustco for 25 years before retiring in 1984. Survivors include his wife, Jeanette of Yakima; two daughters, Nancy Roehr of Yakima and Paula Barrows of Warwick, RI; two brothers, Don Harr of Jamestowns, ND, and Oliver "Hoot" Harr of Mandan, ND; two sisters, Leora Thompson of Kennewick and Catherine (Wilbert) Stroh of Jamestown, ND; and four grandchildren.

    Yakima-Norman E. Harr, 71, of Yakima, died in his home on Tuesday, December 23, 1997 after an extended illness.
    Norm was born in Woodworth, North Dakota on September 15, 1926, the son of Jacob and Anna (Oswald) Harr. He was raised and educated in Jamestown, N.D., and moved to the Northwest as a young adult. He worked at various jobs for a time, then took courses and learned the insurance trade, becoming an adjuster and working twenty-five years with Adjustco, retiring in 1984 due to illness. He married Jeanette Jacobs in Spokane, WA in 1957 and they raised their family in Yakima.
    Norm liked to bowl and really liked to golf. His travels to foreign lands were exciting and trips to Reno and around the United States were fun and enjoyable. He really enjoyed his family and liked his times with goups like the Elks and various insurance associations.
    Norm is survived by his wife, Jeanette, of Yakima; daughters Nancy Roeher and husband Mark, of Yakima and Paula Barrows and husband Gary of Warwick, Rhode Iisland; brothers Don Harr and wife Judy, of Jamestown, and Oliver "Hoot" Harr and wife Jerri, Mandan, North Dakota; sisters, Leora Thompson of Kennewick, WA and Catherine Stroh of Jamestown; grandchildren Renee and Noelle Roeher, Kary Friel, and Nicloe Crandall; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    Norm was preceded in death by his parents, son Charles in 1980 and three sisters.
    Private family memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital in care of Shaw & Sons Funeral

    O. L. "Hoot" Harr, 81, Mandan, died Jan. 22, 2010, at Medcenter One. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 505 10th Avenue N.W., Mandan, with the Revs. Kenneth Phillips and Albert Leary. Military graveside services will be held in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
    Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a vigil service will begin at 7 p.m.
    O. L. "Hoot" was born Sept. 24, 1928, in Woodworth, the son of Jacob and Anna (Oswald) Harr. He attended schools in Woodworth and Jamestown. Hoot married Gerry Zirbes on Aug. 23, 1947, in Jamestown. Hoot served with the U.S. Army in the 3rd infantry division as a Corporal and received the Combat Infantry Badge and two Bronze Stars. Following his honorable discharge in 1954, he returned to North Dakota, and he and Gerry settled in Mandan. Hoot continued to work and established Twin City Roofing, becoming the sole owner and proprietor in 1988. Along with building his business, Hoot built and established lifelong friendships. He enjoyed driving throughout western North Dakota, and eastern Montana, meeting and working with clients, and doing a job that wasn't work to him. He loved it.
    Hoot was a life-long member of the Elks, serving as past exalted ruler, lodge and state trustee and district deputy grand exalted ruler. He was also a life-long member of American Legion. He was the national director of American Subcontractors Association and Zonolite Deck Applicators Association. He was president of the board of Mandan Hospital and a director of First National Bank of Mandan (Wells Fargo) from 1970 to 1991.
    Hoot was an avid hunter and fisherman who shared his love of the outdoors with his sons. Many good times were had hunting throughout the state and on trips to Canada and Alaska with friends and family. Hoot was a member of Apple Creek Country Club and rarely missed playing golf on men's day; and of course, was a lunch fixture at Amvets and Seven Seas.
    While Hoot may have attended the "school of hard knocks," and learned to be tough for the many things he experienced and accomplished in his life, he had a soft spot for all his grandchildren.
    Hoot is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Susan (Andy) Wolf, Beulah; his sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff (Patti) Harr, Weston, Texas, Scott (Carol) Harr, Mandan, and Dave (Julie) Harr, Lakewood, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Valerie, Michele and Tim Wolf, Stephanie and Rachelle Harr, Lauren Harr and Jacob Harr; his sisters, Katherine Stroh, Jamestown, and Leora Thompson, Kennewick, Wash.; and his brother, Don Harr, Jamestown.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Gerry; his parents; his brother, Norm; and his sisters, Della Ruddy, Clara Schmitz and Nelda Harr.

    Funeral services for Wilbur Edmund Bitz of Bismarck, former resident of the Cleveland community.. Mr. Bitz died Friday in St. Alexis Hospital, Bismarck, after apparently suffering a heart attack. Born Jan. 7, 1922, in Valley Springs Township, Stutsman County, Mr. Bitz was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Bitz. He attended school in Valley Springs Township, was graduated from Sheyenne River Academy at Harvey, and attended Union College in Lincoln, NE, for two years. He worked with his parents on their farm north of Cleveland for a time. In 1952 he began work with the Northern Pacific Railway in the storeroom at Jamestown, and later worked at Dilworth, MN, for a time. For the past 12 years he had been employed with the railroad, now the Burlington Northern, in Bismarck and Mandan as a car clerk. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.     Leander R. Harr, 84, Woodworth, ND, died Friday, June 29, 2001, at his home in Woodworth. Mr. Harr was born April 14, 1917, at Cleveland, ND, the son of Dan and Emma (Heib) Harr. They moved to a farm northeast of Woodworth, where he grew up and attended school. He served in the Civil Conservation Corps in Middle River, MN. He married Evelyn Pieske June 2, 1941, at Jamestown. They lived on several farms around Woodworth before buying the Adoph Haser farm in Goldwin Township in 1950. He was a dairy farmer and also drove school bus for 17 1/2 years. They had an auction sale on Oct. 6, 1978, when they retired, but they continued to live in Woodworth. He enjoyed woodworking and word search. He is survived by his wife; six sons, Dale (Ardeen), Woodworth, Nathan (Gloria) and Curtis (Valery), both Jamestown, Marlin (Marlys), Pettibone, ND, Kelvin (Sheila), Courtenay, ND, and Noel (Rolene), Fargo, ND; two daughters, Ardell Quigley (Gene Schapp) and karen (Todd) Krenz, both Jamestown; four brothers, Ervin, Darrington, WA, Raymond (Lorraine), Ontario, OR, Elmer (Evelyn), Montesano, WA, and Jerry (Lois Higgins), Livingston, TX; a sister, Carol (Glenn) Tower, Phoenix, OR; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Mr. Haas was born in Valley Springs Township Dec. 1. 1917. He attend the Valley Springs Township schools and was graduated from the Sheyenne River Academy in 1938. He attended Union College, Lincoln, Neb., for a year, spent a year in Oakland, Calif.k with the United Airlines and in 1941 returned to North Dakota. He enlisted June 6, 1942 in the Air Force Reserve and was discharged July 1943. Mr. Haas and Miss Rachel Fischer were married in Jamestown April 21, 1942. Since 1943 he has farmed in Valley Springs Township. He served on the township school board for several years and at the time of his death was township clerk and was a director of the A.S.C. for his district. He was a member of Medina Seventh-day Adventist church.     "In the tradition of rich history of Cal Poly baseball, .. nobody represented Cal Poly baseball better than Berdy Harr. As an assistant coach from 1969-71, and head coach from 1972-1983, Harr recorded over 200 wins in his eleven years with the Mustangs.. Harr remains one of the all-time winningest coaches in school history with a record of 297-294-5 for a winning percentage of .544. .. Berdy passed away in 1990. He is survived by his wife Jeane and two daughters, Gina and Angela.

    Berdy V. Harr, 55, of Los Osos died Sunday, Dec. 2, 1990, at a San Luis Obispo hospital.. Private burial will follow in Los Osos Valley Memorial Park. Mr. Harr as born Aug. 29, 1935, in Jamestown, N.D. His family moved to Mobile, Ala., when he was 2 years old. he was educated in Mobile and attended Murphy High School for three years. His family then moved to California, and he graduated from Lynwood Academy. He completed two years of college at Compton Junior college and graduated from Long Beach State University with a bachelor's degree in physical education. After serving two years in the Army, he returned to Long Beach State in 1960 to earn his teaching credential. He taught for nine years at Lynwood High School and was also the captain of the baseball team. He married Jeanne Collier in Pasadena in 1964, and they moved to Los Osos in 1970. Mr. Harr began his teaching career at Cal Poly in the fall of 1970 and also served as assistant baseball coach. During this time he earned his master's degree in education from Chapman College. He was the head baseball coach at Cal Poly from 1972 to 1983, when he left coaching to begin a career in the insurance industry. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Beta Phi fraternity at Compton Junior College and Sigma Alpha Epsilon at Long Beach State. Mr Harr was a devoted and loving father. In addition to his wife, Jeanne, he is survived by two daughters, Gina Marie Harr of San Luis Obispo and Angela Nicole Harr of Mobile, Ala.; and his mother, Vesta R. Harr of Los Osos. He was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Harr, in 1953

    OBITUARY
    Paula J. Barrows, 59, of Merritt Island, Florida; formerly of Hope Valley, Rhode Island, and Jamestown, North Dakota, passed away suddenly Tuesday, July 27,2010 at Wuesthoff Hospital. She is survived by her beloved husband Gary, mother Eugenia Soulis Harr of Jamestown, North Dakota, her three children Kary Sinkule and husband Robert, Nicole Crandall and husband Douglas, and Daniel Friel who all reside in the Phoenix area. Paula also had two step-daughters; Erin Barrows and Erica Zegles along with three granddaughters Alexandra Crandall, Eliza Zegles, and Elaina Zegles and many nieces and nephews. Paula and Gary own and operate Time Out Sports Bar in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Prior to owning the bar they owned and drove an eighteen wheeler together, traveling all over the United States and Canada which they thor oughly enjoyed for eight years. She also helped operate Suburban Cleaners, a family owned business while living in Rhode Island. She was a very talented tailor who loved to sew, and because of her reputation and ability to sew everything and any thing her customers along with her friends and family kept her very busy. She loved children and her home was always open to her childrens friends who needed good advice, a hot meal, or a place to stay. She was also a dog lover and her family nick named her "the Dog Whisperer". While living in Rhode Island she was an avid golfer, sailor, and an accomplished Sporting Clay competitor.

    Note: Janice Lee Landscoot was born on 18 August 1939 at Jamestown, Stutsman County, North Dakota, USA. She was the daughter of Lloyd Landscoot and Irene Sophie Harr. Janice Lee Landscoot died on 22 May 2004 at Terrell, Kaufman Co., Texas, at age 64. Janice Lee Thompson, age 64, entered into eternal peace with her beloved sister, Gayle Skaar on May 22, 2004.After becoming a 1957 Jamestown High School graduate, her life became filled with marriages, moves and children. By the time she moved to Wyoming, she was busy with a brood of five. She was a woman of many talents that stretched the course of the alphabet from applique', cooking, crocheting, knitting, quilting and sewing to name only a few. She eventually moved back to North Dakota and then to Texas, where she decided to add a new dimension to her life with a career in payroll and accounts payable. Upon retirement, she enjoyed the peace and calm of country living where she would tend her garden, read books or work on a quilt.
    All will miss her, including those who call her Mom: David Klund, Timothy Klundt, Vicki Gelmer, Scott Klundt and Pamela Klundt; her eight grandchildren, her sister and five nephews; one niece and her mother as well as many friends that she crossed paths with during the course of her life. She has left behind that cherish the legacy of her gifts and talents.
    A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2004 at 4 p.m. at Flower Mound Family Funeral Home in Flower Mound, Texas. The Rev. Mike Danchak will officiate the service in remembering Janice with her sister, Gayle Skaar.1
