Elmer Zimbelman of Oakes, ND, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the Oakes Good Samaritan Society. He was 100 years old.
Elmer Peter was born October 7, 1913 on the family farm in York Township near Fullerton, North Dakota. He was the oldest of three sons born to Lee and Ida (Gemar) Zimbelman. He attended a one room country school near their home, and helped out on the family farm until he graduated. He was united in marriage to Irene Glaser on June 30, 1936 and together they had one child, Wayne Lee. Elmer and Irene lived with his parents for a short time before moving to Valley City, ND.
He worked for the State Highway Department for about a year, and then returned to Oakes to farm, later purchasing the family farm. In 1964, they moved to Roseburg, Oregon to be closer to their son and family. He was employed at Munion's Heating and Air along side his son, where he worked until his retirement. In 1979, Elmer and Irene returned to Oakes. Irene passed away November 29, 2001.
Elmer was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Oakes, where he was also confirmed and married. You would often see him helping out and fixing things around the building. He loved camping and working outside. He had a great sense of humor and loved telling stories. Elmer was truly a wonderfully kind, loving man, and he will be truly missed.
He is survived by three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Lorraine Zimbelman. Elmer is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Irene, son Wayne, daughter-in-law Sheri, two grandsons, and two brothers.

Allisen Albert Zimbelman, son of Leopold and Ida (Gemar) Zimbelman was born on October 3, 1918 at Oakes, North Dakota, where he grew up and attended school.
Allisen was married to Barbara Kelsch on March 7, 1938 at Ellendale, North Dakota. Over the years, Allisen farmed, worked as an electrician and plumber, a tinsmith, and mechanic. He also worked as a butcher for five years in Montana, before returning to Oakes.
He was united in marriage to Rachel Pranke on February 24, 1968 at Oakes, North Dakota, where the couple farmed and raised cattle. In 1981, Allisen and Rachel moved into Oakes. Allisen also restored and refinished furniture for 20 years. He entered the Oakes Good Samaritan Center at Oakes, North Dakota on May 15, 2007.
Allisen died on Friday, May 25, 2007, at the Oakes Good Samaritan Center. He was 88 years old.
He is survived by his wife Rachel, Oakes, ND; two daughters, Patricia (Gene) Kraft, Rapid City, SD, and Charlotte (Dennis) Kenfield, Chester, MT; two brothers, Elmer Zimbelman, and LeRoy (Lorraine) Zimbelman, all of Oakes, ND; two step-sons, Gary Pranke, Winters, CA, and Jeff Pranke, Phoenix, AZ; ten grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; seventeen step-great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-great-grandchildren.
Allisen was preceded in death by two sons, Darryl and Paul and his parents.
The funeral for Allisen A. Zimbelman, of Oakes, North Dakota will be Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church in Oakes, with Bill Weispfenning CLP officiating.
Burial will be at the Oakes View Cemetery, near Oakes.

LeRoy Zimbelman, 86, of Oakes, ND, passed into his Father's arms on June 3, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be greatly missed, but his integrity, love and amazing sense of humor will always be remembered.
LeRoy Zimbelman, son of Lee and Ida (Gemar) Zimbelman, was born December 3, 1926 southwest of Oakes, where he grew up. He attended rural school through the 8th grade and then Oakes High School until he was seriously hurt in a farm accident.
He was united in marriage to Lorraine Rasmussen on January 8th, 1950. LeRoy worked as a mechanic at the Chevrolet Garage in Oakes for the first five years of marriage, then bought the Rasmussen family farm, where he raised his family for 25 years. During LeRoy's farming years, he continued to work as a mechanic in town between growing seasons.
In 1982 LeRoy and Lorraine moved into town, where LeRoy was employed at the IH Implement before going to work with his best friend, Budd Larson at Larson Sales. LeRoy and Budd worked together 30 years. He enjoyed all the people who came to the shop and all the challenges of old tractors and Budd's special projects. LeRoy was a life-long member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; a son, Alan (Yolanda) Zimbelman, Oakes, ND; a daughter, Karen (Kip) Fulghum, Colorado Springs, CO; a brother, Elmer Zimbelman, Oakes, ND; four grandsons, Lee (Shari) Zimbelman, Fargo, ND, Kelly (Jill) Zimbelman, Las Vegas, NV, Brent (Kristi) Zimbelman, Fargo, ND and Brian Fulghum, Gunnison, CO; one great-grandson, Daman Zimbelman, Austin, MN; and one great-great-granddaughter, Blake. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Allisen, two sisters-in-law, and one brother-in-law.
A memorial service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oakes on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m., with burial to follow at the Oakes View Cemetery.
There will be a gathering for friends to greet LeRoy's family on Friday from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Oakes.

The funeral for Paul A. Zimbelman, 51, of West Fargo, and formerly of Oakes, N.D., will be at 4 p.m. Monday at St. Charles Catholic Church in Oakes. The Rev. Julian Kupisz will officiate.
Burial will be in Oakes View Cemetery with Dahlstrom Funeral Home of Oakes in charge of arrangements.
He died of natural causes Thursday, May 30, 2002, at his home in West Fargo.
Paul A. Zimbelman was born Nov. 14, 1950, to Allisen and Barbara (Kelsch) Zimbelman in Oakes. He moved with his family to Rudyard, Mont. In 1961 the family returned to Oakes, where he attended school. He attended college at the University of North Dakota, Ellendale Branch, before transferring to North Dakota State University in Fargo, where he graduated. After college he returned to the Oakes area and farmed.
He married Debra Girard on April 29, 1995, in Oakes. The couple made their home on the Zimbelman family farm. In 2000 he retired from farming due to health reasons. In October 2001 he moved to West Fargo where he lived until the time of his death.
Survivors include his father, Allisen (Rachel) Zimbelman of Oakes; one brother, Darryl Zimbelman of Hudson, and two sisters, Charlotte Kenfield of Chester, Mont., and Patty Kraft of Rapid City.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Casketbearers will be Al Zimbelman, Lloyd Gebhardt, Darwin Kunrath, Monty Albers, Dean Schmidt and Tom Rodine.
