œWilliam C. Swinford, a well-known resident of this city (Santa Cruz) for 25 years, and for a number of years, a resident of Los Gatos, passed away last night. He was a member of one of the pioneer families, a son of the late John M. Swinford and was one of the early graduates of the University of California. He was engaged in newspaper work in this city for a number of years, but has been an invalid the past few years. He leaves a widow, Mrs. Hope Swinford, a prominent musician, and three children, John C., Lee H. and Catherine W.; a mother, Mrs. Sarah Ann Swinford; three sisters, Mrs. George Pearson of Santa Cruz, Mrs. Edna Van Winkle of San Francisco and Mrs. L. Swainey of Davenport, and three brothers, John, Joaquin and Elbert.
