Reuben Herbert Faul, 89, Sawyer, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 15, 2010 in an Orange, CA hospital.
Reuben was born on January 31, 1920 on the family farm in Brillian Township of Ward County, near Sawyer, ND, to John and Louise (Vix) Faul. He was reared on the family farm and attended Haugen Johnson and Hans Christenson rural schools prior to graduating from Velva High School in 1938.

Reuben was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" Henke on October 23, 1949 at Sawyer. They made their home on the farm until the spring of 1964, when they built a house in Sawyer, so their children could be closer to school. He continued farming until his retirement in 1979. However, he continued to assist his family and neighbors with their farming and remained very active in the Sawyer community.
Reuben served two terms on the Brillian Township Board, with three of those years as the supervisor. In 1967, he was appointed the first Mayor of Sawyer, and was elected for an additional six more years. He had served on the Sawyer City Board for two terms, prior to serving as Mayor. He served two terms on the Sawyer School Board and was active in the Ward County Farm Bureau, serving as vice-president for two terms. He also spent 18 years on the Sawyer Elevator Board with 16 of those years as Chairman. He assisted in organizing the Sawyer Senior Citizens and held numerous positions with that organization. He was also active with the Souris Basin Transportation Board, where he served as vice-president for more than 10 years. He was a longtime member of the Sawyer Lions Club.
Reuben regularly attended and was active with the Sawyer Mennonite Brethren Church prior to its closure and then attended the Sawyer Church of the Nazarene.
