Doris Jean Babb, 81, of Central City died Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Lincoln. Doris was born on Nov. 13, 1929, in Cushing to Ralph Carl and Mona Helen (Zimmerle) Neumann.
Survivors are: husband, Montelle Babb of Central City; children and spouses, Ardene Babb of Central City, Carolyn and Jim Knopik of Belgrade, Amil Babb of Gibbon, Katherine and Rodney Senkbile of Clarks, Tony and Chris Babb of Fullerton, Roy and Shelly Babb of St. Edward and Patricia and David King of Farmington, N.M.; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Lois and Albert Russell, Carol and Ralph Cox, all of Fullerton, Rosalie Reagan of Central City and Mary Lynn and Leon Lucas of Grand Island; brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Gwen Neumann of Lincoln; 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Doris grew up and received her education in Greeley and Nance Counties, graduating from Fullerton High School in 1948. Doris received her Normal Training at Kearney and taught in rural Boone County for one year. On April 8, 1949, she was united in marriage to Montelle Babb. When Montelle was called back to active duty in the U.S. Navy in 1951, Doris and their family lived in Fullerton. From 1955 until 1968, while Montelle was active duty with the U.S. Air Force, Doris and their children lived where he was stationed throughout the United States. Among the several states they lived in were Indiana, Colorado, Arizona, California and Michigan. When Montelle was stationed in Vietnam, the family returned to Fullerton. In 1983, Doris and Montelle opened Babb and Sons in Central City, and they moved to Central City in 1985. They owned and operated the store for 19 years before retiring. After retirement, they continued to live in Central City.
Doris was an avid reader and she especially enjoyed reading about history and poetry. She enjoyed embroidery and had an extensive chicken collection.
Doris was preceded in death by twin infant grandsons, Brad, Brian and Michael Babb; an infant brother; and daughter-in-law, Susan Babb.
Burial was in the Fullerton Cemetery, Fullerton, NE.
