    Fred J Karnatz was born April 25, 1865 at Thornton, Ill and departed this life April 12, 1957 at the home of his daughter Mrs Ray Mileger near Edgar, Nebr., at the age of 91 years, 11 months and 17 days.
    He was the son of John and Sophie (Sholtz) Karnatz. when a small boy the family moved to Jewell County, Kan., where his parents homesteaded on a farm.
    On October 3, 1885, Fred and Mary Karnatz were united in marriage at Guide Rock, Nebr. To this union six children were born, Dena, Willis, Albert, Louis, Herman and Ethel.
    Mr Karnatz engaged in farming in Jewel County, Kan., and in the Ong, Edgar and Deweese vicinities. They moved to Edgar in 1933.
    He was a member of the Edgar Methodist Church.
    He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Mary, and four children, Dena Weis or Summerfield, Kans.; Wm Karnatz of Davenport, Nebr; Herman Karnatz of Lena, Ill. and Ethel Mileger of Edgar, Nebr.; together with 15 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Two of the sons Albert and Louis, preceded him in death.
    He was a kind husband a father and a good neighbor. In addition to the family members who we have named he will be missed by many other relatives and a host of friends.
    Services under the direction of the McGhie Funeral. Services were held in Edgar at 2:30 on Monday afternoon with the Rev Harry Gleim in charge.
    Mrs Harold Beck and Mrs Morley Braye sange "Ivory Palaces" and "In the Garden " with Mrs Robert Mikkelsen at the organ. The flowers were cared for by Mrs Harold Crouch and Mrs Homer Hand.
    Casket bearers were grandsons of the deceased, Robert Karnatz, Reuel Karnatz, Lovelle Karnatz, Ray Karnatz, Vincent Erickson, and Clair Karnatz. Interment was in the Edgar cemetery.

    Louie Emery Kiehl, youngest son of Charles and Hannah Kiehl, was born May 19, 1891 at Burr Oak, Kansas. He departed this life suddenly at his home in Guide Rock, Nebraska on December 31, 1973 at the age of 82 years,
    7 months and 12 days.
    Most of his life was spent in farming around Burr Oak and Guide Rock, except two years that were spent at Ericson, Nebraska, and for a time in the Red Cloud community.
    He was united in marriage to Anna Schnittker on January 21, 1912, at Nelson, Nebraska. They had the pleasure of spending sixty years of marriage together on January 21, 1973.
    Three sons and four daughters were born to this union, all of whom survive.
    Survivors include three sons, Jesse of Omaha; Clifford of Pomona, Kansas; Robert of Tehama, California; and the four daughters, (Freda) Mrs Leland Drake of Hastings; (Mildred) Mrs Lawrence Schamp of Inavale; (Cleo) Mrs Frank Carrie of Warren Michigan; (Ruby) Mrs John Duncan of Overland Park, Kansas.
    Also surviving are seventeen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and one brother, Art Kiehl, of Mankato, Kansas.
    Louie was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and one granddaughter, Ellen Drake Peterson. He also leaves a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
    The funeral services was held at the Simonson Funeral Home in Red Cloud on Friday, January 4, 1974 at 2:00 o'clock in the afternoon. Rev. Earl Hess officiated.
    Interment was made in Guide Rock cemetery. Pallbearers were Glenn Ohmstede, Loy Robb, R A Norman, George Sholtz, Albert Payne and Bob Lewis.

    Er hinterlässt seine Frau, seine drei Kinder, zwölf Enkelkinder, seine Eltern, zwei Brüder, William of Davenport und Herman of Lena, Illinois, und zwei Schwestern, Mrs. Dena Weis aus Summerfield, Kansas, und Mrs. Ethel Mileger aus Edgar .

    Funeral services for William John Karnatz were held at the Urbauer Funeral Home in Davenport Wednesday, July 14, with the Rev Henry Dumler officiating. The following obituary was read at the service:
    William John Karnatz, son of Fred and Mary Karnatz, was born Dec 11, 1889, at Burr Oak, Kan.., and died at the Veterans' Administration Hospital in Grand Island on July 12, 1965, at the age of 75 years, 7 months and 1 day.
    He volunteered for military service in 1918, serving his country here and overseas.
    Mr Karnatz was married to Jessie Isabelle Cassell on Aug 3, 1918. To this union was born four children, two sons and two daughters.
    He lived in the Ong and Edgar communities until 1923 when he moved with his family to a farm near Davenport and resided in that vicinity until his death. He was a member of the American Legion of Davenport and the Odd Fellows Lodge.
    Preceding him in death were his wife, parents, three brothers and one sister. He leaves to mourn his sons and daughter, Ray and Mrs Donald (Ruby) Lonsdale of Davenport, Lovelle of Ong and Mrs Alvin (Rhodabelle) Lowery of Oak; 15 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs Ray Mileger of Edgar; and other relatives and friends.
    Burial service of the church preceeded services by the American legion of Davenport. Interment was in the Edgar Cemetery.

    Herman H. Karnatz
    LENA—Herman Homer Karnatz, a resident of Lena for 22 years, died Monday in a Chicago hospital where he had been a patient since Oct. 3, 1960.
    He was born Dec. 11, 1895, in Burr Oak, Kan., the son of Fred and Mary Karnatz. He married Sina A. Hayes Aug. 3, 1918, in Hastings, Neb. The couple moved to Lena in 1938. Karnatz was a member of Lena Methodist Church and was a- veteran of World War I. He was also a member of the Lena American Legion Post.
    Surviving are his wife; three sons, Clair of Lena, Marvin of Aurora and Vernon, a student at
    the University of Illinois; five grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Ray (Ethel) Mileger of Edgar,
    Neb., and Mrs. Carl (Dena) Weis of Summerfield, Kan.; and one brother, William of Davenport,
    Neb.
    Service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Leamon Funeral Home with Rev. Webster R.
    Hobb, pastor of Lena Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Lena Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Wednesday.

    Ethel wurde am 27. Januar 1905 als Sohn von Fred und Mary Karnatz in Hastings geboren. Sie wuchs in den Gemeinden der Ong/Edgar auf und besuchte dort die Schulen.
    Am 20. August 1921 wurde sie mit George Lindgren verheiratet. Nach dem Tod ihres Mannes heiratete sie am 16. Mai 1946 Ray Mileger, 1950 lebte eine Enkelin Cathy Roth/Mileger bei Ethel und Ray und wurde später von dem Paar adoptiert und wurde ihre Tochter.
    Während ihrer Zeit in Edgar war sie Mitglied der Methodistenkirche und später der Church of the Plains, der Ladies Auxiliary und des Edgar Women's Club.
    Sie zog aus gesundheitlichen Gründen nach Omaha, um ihrer Tochter näher zu sein.
    Ihre Eltern gingen ihr im Tod voraus; erster Ehemann George und Ehemann Ray Mileger und eine Tochter Eileen Lindgren.
    Zu den Überlebenden gehören eine Tochter Cathy Mileger aus Omaha sowie Nichten und Neffen.

    Ethel heiratete Lindgren, George Ludwig am 21 Aug 1921.     STRATFORD - Fern Marie Gupton, 77, died Tuesday, May 2, 1995.
    Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev Brian Adams, pastor and the Rev John Wagoner, Pastor of First United Methodist Church in Panhandle, officiating. Burial will be in Stratford Cemetery by Morrison Funeral directors.
    Mrs Gupton was born in Ong, Neb., and had lived in Stratford since 1952. She married Bill Gupton in 1945 at Belleville, Kan. He died in 1983. She was a retired restaurant owner and operator and a member of First United Methodist Church.
    Survivors include two sons, Kenny Gupton of Guymon, Okla., and Jimmy Gupton of Portland; three daughters, Karen Luther of Texline, Mary Vanover of Fritch and Judy Diamond of Amarillo; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

    Mrs Elsie N Erickson, 54, 1926 West Ninth, died Friday February 28, 1975 at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Ong and member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Church Circle.
    Funeral services are pending with the Butler-Volland Funeral Home.
    Mrs Erickson is survived by her husband, Vincent; one son, Michael, Kearney; two daughters, Mrs Duane Plambeck, Kenesaw and Mrs Melvin Wiens, Kearney; her mother, Mrs Edna Karnatz, Hastings; one brother, Reuel Karnatz, Spearfish, S.D.; one sister, Mrs William Gupton, Stratford, Texas; and three grandchildren.

    EDGAR - Reuel V Karnatz of Rapid City, South Dakota died Sunday, May 16, 1993 at the Meadowbrook Manor Nursing Home in Rapid City at the age of 70 years.
    Services were held May 19 in the Church of the Plains in Edgar with Lay Pastor Ellen Campbell officiating. Musicians were Alana Moorhead, vocalist and Vicki Price, organist. Casket bearers were Vincent Erickson, Lovelle Karnatz, Duane Plambeck, Brent Karnatz, Todd Karnatz and Steven Plambeck. Interment was in the Edgar Cemetery with military rites conducted by Warren-Fletcher American Legion Post 248 of Edgar.
    Mr Karnatz was born November 9, 1922 to Albert G and Edna E (Peterson) Karnatz in Ong. He was a graduate of the Ong High School. After school, he served in United States Marine Corps during World War II.
    He married Helen Koci on October 29, 1946, in Ong. They farmed for several years near Ong, before moving to Fairfield in 1953, then worked at the Navy Ammunition Depot in Hastings. Following a disabling auto accident in 1958, he has resided in Sturgis and Rapid City, South Dakota.
    Preceded him in death were his parents and one sister, Elsie Erickson.
    Survivors are three son; Gary Karnatz of Nacagdoches, Texas, Jerry Karnatz and wife Sandra of Schuyler, and Lyle and wife Deb of Clay Center; two daughters, Alleen and husband Glenn Ernst of Magnolia, Texas, and Diann Gentry of Omaha; one sister, Fern Gupton of Stratford, Texas; one brother-in-law, Vincent Erickson of Hastings; and eight grandchildren.

    Hastings resident Lovelle Dean Karnatz, 90, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at Mary Lanning Memorial Health Care in Hastings. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd in Hastings with the Rev. Steven Peeler officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Ong Cemetery near Ong. Visitation is 1-8 p.m. today with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Clay Center. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
    Lovelle was born May 3, 1920, near Ong Neb., to William John and Jessie (Cassell) Karnatz. He grew up in the Davenport area and attended Davenport Community School through the 11th grade. At that time, he had to help with the farm work with his dad. On Aug. 29, 1948, he married Margaret Koci and they were blessed with four children.
    In 1956, the family moved to Ong where he worked for Clay County Government bin sites. In 1959, he started working for the local Farmers Co-op. He worked in the elevator and then the gas station driving the fuel truck.
    Lovelle retired in 1983. After retirement, Lovelle took up the hobby of woodworking with his daughters. They attended many craft shows in the area. Major interests were traveling, visiting historical sites, camping and fishing. His passion was spending time with his wife, kids, grandkids, great- grandkids and other family members.
    While living in Ong, Lovelle was elected to the town council, was a volunteer fire fighter and served as mayor of Ong.
    He also helped to maintain the cemetery. Lovelle again retired in 1997 and he and Margaret moved to Hastings, Neb.
    He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Hastings, Neb.; daughters, Donna Hunter and Kathy Fischer, both of Lincoln, Neb., and Doris Larsen of Overbrook, Kan.; son, Dennis and wife Lucy Karnatz of Mandaree, N.D.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ray and wife Margaret Karnatz of Davenport.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Rhodabelle Lowery and Ruby Lonsdale; grandsons, Travis Hakanson and Jeremy Fischer; and son-in-law, Tom Larsen.

    Rhodabelle Lowery, the daughter of William and Jessie (Cassell) Karnatz, was born on July 5, 1921 on a farm near Ong, Nebraska. She passed away on July 30, 2007 at Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Deshler, Nebraska at the age of 86 years, and 25 days.
    Rhodabelle was the second of four children. She was baptized on April 24, 1943 at the Methodist Church in Davenport, Nebraska. She attended District 30 Hammond School northwest of Davenport through part of the 8th grade and finished 8th at Valley View School which is in Thayer County and she graduated from Davenport High School in 1938 . She taught school for four years in rural schools then entered the Bonnell Beauty School in Hastings. After completing this course, she went into business for herself, operating a beauty salon in Shickley, Nebraska. She and her sister, Ruby Lonsdale, operated a small grocery store in Oak called the Oak Market for several years in the early 1980's.
    She was united in marriage to Robert (Alvin) Lowery on March 1, 1947, in Belleville, Kansas. Five children were born to this marriage. The couple farmed by Oak, Nebraska and moved into Alvin's parents' home after they passed away in Oak.
    Rhodabelle was a member of King's Daughter's of Oak, serving as president for many years. She was also a member of the Oak Community Church and was the pianist for the congregation for over forty years. Other interests included gardening and raising flowers, playing the organ and piano. Her hobbies included, crochet and was interested in crafts of all varieties. She loved spending time with all her grandchildren. A favorite pet, was the family Cocker Spaniel, named, "Blacky". Traveling to California by train, with her husband, was her most enjoyable trip.
    Rhodabelle lived in her home in Oak, prior to moving to Parkview Haven Nursing Home on March 11, 2002, where she resided until her death.
    Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Alvin on March 11, 2002; son, Stanley; and sister, Ruby Lonsdale.

    She was the third of four children born to her parents. She attended county schools in Nuckolls and Thayer counties and graduated from Davenport High School in 1942. After high school she taught at Logan Township School west of Ong. She then attended and graduated from beauty school in Hastings.. She worked as a beautician in Nelson. She then went to Lincoln and worked in a children's home. While she lived in Oak, she and her sister, Rhodabelle, operated a small grocery store.
    She married James Donald Lonsdale on Oct 21, 1958, in Mullen, Neb. They lived and farmed in the Davenport area. During her lifetime Ruby lived in Hastings, Lincoln, Davenport and Oak. In May of 2002 she entered Parkview Haven Nursing Home.
    She was a member of the First Community Church of Oak and served on the church board, was a member of the Dorcas Missionary Society, sang in the church choir and taught Sunday school; a member of Oak Kings Daughters Library, where she served as president; and a member of the Oak Village Board. Her hobbies included reading, embroidery and crossword puzzles.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oct 8, 1975; and a step-son, James Darwin Lonsdale, in June of 1966.
    She is survived by her brothers, Lovelle Karnatz, Hastings and Ray Karnatz, Davenport; sister, Rhodabelle Lowery, Deshler; six nephews and eight nieces.
    Services were held Tuesday at the First Community Church in Oak, with Pastor Carl Trichard officiating.

    Robert Eugene "Bob" Karnatz, died Friday, September 7, 2012 at Saint Francis Medical Center, Grand Island, NE. Bob was born on a farm outside of Edgar, NE. to Louis Charles Krantz and Daisy Julia Marie "Mary" (Lindgren) Krantz Cassell on December 4, 1919.
    Bob graduated from Edgar (NE.) High School in 1937. He drove a truck for Ong (NE.) Transfer where he met Ruby Thurin. Ruby and Bob were married on May 27, 1940, in Hastings, NE. They then moved to Hastings, NE. where he attended Hastings (NE.) Business College graduating in 1941. He was inducted into the US Army, entered active duty in July 1943, and was assigned to the 127th Antiaircraft Artillery (AAA) Gun Battalion. He served in England at the White Cliffs of Dover, and in France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. He came home in 1946, and upon discharge from the Army, at the rank of Technician 4th Grade, he and Ruby purchased the home in Hastings, NE. where he lived until his death. He worked as a "parts man" for John Deere Implement Company (20 years at Bierman's on South Burlington, Hastings, NE. and 20 years at Samuelson's in Trumbull, NE.).
    Bob was a faithful, active member of VFW Post 1346 and Peace Lutheran Church, Hastings, NE.
    Robert was preceded in death by: parents; and loving wife, Ruby Karnatz, who died in 2006.

    From 1944 to 1946, during World War II, he served in the Navy in the European Theater. He was a Past Commander and lifetime member of American Legion Sprague Inman Post 577.
    Son of Herman H and Sina (Hayes) Karnatz, he was born June 15, 1919, in Woodbine. He and Mildred Sallee were married Sept 28, 1941 in Lena.
    Surviving family members include his wife; two sons, Kenneth of Rockford and Dale of Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers, Marvin (Lucille) Karnatz of Lena and Vernon (Inge) of Germany; and three grandchildren, Joshua of Lena, Jason of Aurora and Krista of Lena.
    Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lena United Methodist Church with the Rev Gavin Brandt officiating.
    Burial will be in Lena Burial Park.
    Friends may call for 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Leamon Funeral Home in Lena.
    A memorial fund has been established by the family.

    Stanley Ray Lowery, 56, the son of Robert and Rhodabelle (Karnatz) Lowery, was born Oct 28, 1947 at Davenport. He was the oldest of five children born to his parents. He died May 11, at Thayer County Health Services Hospital in Hebron, Neb.
    He attended the Oak Grade School, Davenport Public High School and received his associate degree in applied Arts from Central Nebraska Tech, Hastings.
    He served his country in the U S Navy MCB. Three as a member of the Seabee's during the Vietnam war from Jan 7, 1969 to Nov 20, 1972. He married Rae Jeanne Legg Dec 21, 1974, at the Oak community Church.
    He owned and operated Stan's Heating and Air Conditioning, Ruskin.
    He was a member and secretary of the Ruskin volunteer Fire Department, a member of St Mark Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post, Ruskin.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Alvin Lowery. He is survived by his wife, Rae Jeanne; children, Christine Anne Lowery, Chicago, and Kevin John Lowery, Hastings; mother, Rhodabelle Lowery, Deshler; two sisters, Mrs Terry Meyer (Lynda), Bertrand and Mrs Michael Stichka (Connie), Ruskin; and two brothers, Craig and Richard Lowery, both of Oak.
    Services were held on Sunday at St Mark Lutheran Church in Ruskin with Pastor Paul Albrecht and Vicar Paul Hopkins officiating.
    Interment with full military rites by Ruskin American legion Post was in the Union Valley Cemetery, Republic County, Kan.
    Ahrendts Funeral Home of Deshler, was in charge of arrangements.
