OBITUARY

Mrs. Katie Haas, 79, pioneer resident of the Cleveland community, died Thursday evening at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Bietz, in Moonlake Township near Windsor. .. Burial will be in the Seventh-day Adventist cemetery in Medina. Born March 1, 1886, in Russia, Mrs. Haas was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Woehl. She came to the United States at the age of three with her parents who located first in McIntosh County, ND. She attended school in that area before moving with her family to a farm north of Cleveland. Her marriage to Jacob Haas took place Dec. 10, 1901, in Jamestown. They homesteaded in Valley Springs Township where they resided until 1942 when they moved into Cleveland. In 1961, Mr. and Mrs. Haas left Cleveland to make their home with their daughters, Mrs. Reuben Bietz and Mrs. Jake Schroeder. Mr. Haas died April 12, 1963, and Mrs. Haas has been residing in recent months at the Bietz home. She was a member of the Cleveland Seventh-day Adventist Church. She is survived by nine children, Mrs. Richard Bietz (Marian), Lodi, CA; Mrs. Reuben Bietz (Esther), Windsor; Mrs. Jake Schroeder (Mary), Eldridge; Reuben Haas, Scappose, OR; Mrs. Earl Tarbell (Edith), Jamestown; Arthur Haas, Cleveland; Peter Haas, Billings, MT; Edwin Haas, Glendive, MT, and Wilbert Haas, Havre, MT; 43 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Peter Woehl, Cleveland.
