BIOGRAPHIE: From the "Pioneer Footprints" the Diamond Jubilee book for Java SD (1900 - 1975) page 70
"Gottlieb Bamesberger was one of the many pioneers of the
Java territory in its early beginning. Gottlieb was born July 16, 1880 in Hoffnungstal South Russia, and was the son of Christian and Katherina (Orman) Bamesberger. He remained with his parents until he was 15 years old (ed: about 1895) and then took up a woodworking trade, which consisted of making furniture and building things. This was Gottlieb's work for the next five years, until he became 20 years of age, and was military draft age for the Russian army. This idea was rejected by Gottlieb, so he decided to come to America and within a short time he and another friend, George Reuer, got passes to come to America in April of 1900.
They left Bremerhafen Port and sailed by ship (F. Missler) and landed in Port New York, then traveled to train to
Bowdle, which was the end of the Milwaukee railroad. He worked as a farmhand for one year.
The town of Java was being planned and in a short time
many families and laborers moved to the prospective new town. Gottlieb enhanced the idea of doing carpenter work, so decided to come to Java and immediately went to work. He was in the carpenter trade for about 9 years and helped design many houses, barns and granaries in the Java area, many of which are still standing at this time.
In his early years in Java, he became one of the baseball
players for the Java baseball team and was one of their
pitchers. This was one of Gottlieb's favorite sports and always found time to play.
