She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Mick, son Tim Gallagher and wife Zelda of Inman, NE, daughter Jackie Triplett of Grand Prairie, TX, 6 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren, 1 sister-in-law, Dee Moore, of O’Neill, NE, and many nieces and nephews.
Joy Laurene Gallagher was born November 6, 1925, in Sioux City, IA, to Fred and Emma (Zimbleman) Moore. When she was eight years old, her family moved to Inman, where she graduated from Inman High School in 1943. After graduating high school, she worked in the Register of Deeds office in the Holt County Courthouse.
On February 14, 1949, she was united in marriage to Michael “Mick” Gallagher. They lived in rural Inman on the Gallagher ranch before moving to O’Neill in 1973. Mick and Joy raised their two children, Tim and Jackie, on the family ranch. Joy was a contributing part of the success of the ranching life she lived with her husband. She developed those skills necessary to become a supporting partner in the daily demands of the ranch life. She earned the nickname “Cookie” from the young men who worked on the hay crews for all the meals she prepared for them. She enjoyed interacting with those working around the ranch and stayed in touch with developments that took place through the years. During the time they were part owners of the O’Neill Shamrock Livestock Market, Joy added working in the office to her responsibilities of ranch life.
After her move to O’Neill, Joy enjoyed visiting with her friends and her home was always open for them to drop in and share some time. She was a generous person and seldom let anyone who visited leave without something to enjoy later. Her cat, Blackie, became her constant companion and gave her much joy in her later years. As Joy became more home bound, the joy of having Blackie around became even more special to her.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, brother Kenneth Moore, and son-in-law, Louis Triplett.
