Die Kolonie lag etwa 12 km im NO von Grigoriopol. Die Kolonie gab dem so genannten Glückstaler Gebiet ihren Namen, dessen Anfänge bis in das Jahr 1804 zurückreichen. In diesem Jahr kamen die ersten deutschen Siedler in der für ihre Ansiedlung vorgesehenen armenischen Stadt Grigoriopol an. Es waren drei Familien aus Württemberg. Zwischen 1804 und 1808 wuchs die Zahl der Siedler ständig an. Familien aus Württemberg (67), Polen (9), Ungarn (24), dem Elsass (10), aus Baden (9) und aus Hessen (2), aus der Pfalz (3), aus Sachsen (2) und aus Preußen (2) kamen hinzu. Da sich das Zusammenleben zwischen der armenischen und deutschen Bevölkerung in der Stadt nicht wie vorgesehen entwickelte, entschloss sich der damalige Gouverneur, Herzog Richelieu zu einer Umsiedlungsaktion. Die moldauischen Bewohner des Dorfes Glinnoi zogen in die Wohnstätten der Deutschen in Grigoriopol. Diese zogen dafür in das genannte Dorf, das so zur Kolonie Glückstal wurde. Der Kolonie wurden bei ihrer Gründung 7.553 Desj. Land zugeteilt. Im Laufe der Jahre wurden dann weitere 3.450 Desj. hinzugekauft. Zusammen mit Bergdorf und Neudorf wurde 1868 die Tochterkolonie Kleinbergdorf gegründet. 1811 wurde ein Schulhaus gebaut. Allerdings litt der Unterricht in den ersten Jahren unter der Tatsache, dass keine ausgebildeten Lehrer vorhanden waren, so dass Männer aus der Gemeinde „zu diesem Fach angestellt werden, die nur die gewöhnlichen Schulkenntnisse besaßen“. Hinzu kamen unregelmäßiger Schulbesuch und fehlende Lehrmittel. Dies führte dazu, dass wie der Chronist beklagte, „manche der Schulzeit entwuchsen, die kaum lesen, geschweige denn schreiben und rechnen konnten“. 1823 wurde ein neues Schulgebäude gebaut, dass wegen steigender Schülerzahlen 1842 erweitert werden musste. 1912 unterrichteten 4 Lehrer 373 Schüler. Die erste von den moldawischen Einwohnern übernommene Kirche musste 1840 wegen Baufälligkeit abgerissen werden. Der Neubau konnte 1845 fertiggestellt werden. 1847 bauten 23 Siedler auf eigene Kosten eine Käsefabrik. Im Ort gab es einen Konsumverein/-laden.
