Lois Gertrude Nuss, the daughter of Gerd and Hilda (Hinrichs) Frerichs, was born at Hastings, NE., on Sept. 19, 1919 and died in Colorado Springs, CO., on Sept. 17, 2011, at the age of 91.
Lois grew up on the family farm on Showboat Road near Hastings. She attended Country School, graduated from Hastings High School in 1937 and received her teaching certificate from Hastings College. Lois taught country school for three years, then she went to Omaha to learn how to send and receive telegraph messages during World War II. She was a telegraph operator for the Union Pacific Railroad at Kimball for three years.
Lois was united in marriage to Delbert Nuss on Dec. 16, 1945, at Hastings. They lived in Giltner raising their three children. Lois worked at the Lyons Grocery Store, the ASCS Office in Aurora for 13 years and the Giltner School Cafeteria. Delbert passed away on Oct. 6, 1982. Lois moved out to Colorado to be near her daughter five years ago.
Lois was an active member of the Giltner United Methodist Church, the GGG Club and the Greenwood Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister and grandson, Jeffrey S. Holtzen.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Judith E. (Joe) Holtzen of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sons, Delbert 'Butch' (LaShara) Nuss of Giltner and Robert J. Nuss of Oxnard, Calif.; grandchildren, Jon (Amy) Holtzen, Shane M. (Carol) Nuss, Logan Nuss, Casey (Melissa) Nuss, Ryan Nuss and Cody (Cassandra) Nuss and seven great-grandchildren.
Interment was in the Giltner Cemetery, Giltner, NE.
