  Karen Abel: UID: 3357281015F84D7C8A2435AAF3176EFC9910 HISTORY Christ worked on the farm and as an upholsterer for automobiles, particularly the auto tops. After marriage he attempted to run a hotel in Huron, SD, but it did not do well. Lydia said that she got stuck with all the work while Christ sat up front like a bigshot. Christ hobo'd out to California, working add jobs along the way to earn enough money to go to the next train stop. He got to Lodi and stayed with his mother and step-father. He sold off most of his possessions to buy train tickets for Lydia, who was pregnant, to go to California in 1932. Christ worked as a migrant worker picking fruit throughout the San Joaquin Valley.
