      HISTORY
      From Beulah, ND, Diamond Jubilee.
      Herb Scherbinske and Catherine Cox were married Sept. 7, 1946. Catherine was born and reared in Beulah. She taught rural schools in the area and during the World War II years she was a welder in the Kaiser Company ship yards in Portland OR.
      Catherine is a 35-year member of the Beulah Homemakers Club, was the Royal Neighbors of America recorder for 35 years and is a 30 year O.W.L. member. She is an avid bridge player.
      Herb was born at Dickey, ND, and grew up at Cleveland, ND. He came to Beulah in 1941 as an accountant for Liebelt Chevrolet. The years 1942-1945 were spent as a ship builder for the Kaiser Company in Portland. Knife River Coal Mining Company hired Herb in 1945 and the next 40 years were spent with K.R.C. in various positions: chief clerk, superintendent, and manager of special projects. Herb has been very active in the community serving as a member of the Athletic Club, the swimming pool committee, and the Chamber of Commerce, a city councilman for 15 years and a 25-year member of the Rural Fire Department for ten years.
      He was instrumental in organizing the Mercer County Ambulance Service and served as its director as well as an emergency medical technician. For 27 years, Herb also served as chairman of the Mercer County School eorganization Committee. Herb is a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He serves as a member of the Beulah Airport Authority.
      Herb and Catherine have three children. Lt. Col. H. Bruce is a career U.S. Air Force officer and is married to Valerie Schwan. They have two children, Shanna and Patrick, and live in San Antonio. TX. Wynne A. is an engineering librarian with the Army Corps of Engineers. She is married to George Tysdal and they have one child, David. They live in Omaha, NE. Kittra J. is a pediatric intensive care nurse. She lives in Honolulu, HI.
      Mary L. Cox, Catherine's sister, made her home with the family for many years. The family belongs to St. Joseph Church, Beulah. Herb and Catherine both enjoy golfing and spending time at Lake Sakakawea. They also enjoy traveling and visiting their children.
      The Scherbinskes still live in the home that Herb built himself shortly after they were married. They say they found the plan for their home on a cereal box.
