- Pam Walz:
Julia (Huft) Hieb passed away at the Bismarck Baptist Home, Bismarck, July 30, 2008. At 96 years old, she had led a full life. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at St. John Lutheran Church, McClusky. Burial will be in the McClusky City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.
She was born in Lincoln Valley, April 5, 1912, to Jacob and Katharina (Hieb) Huft. Julia grew up on a farm in rural Lincoln Valley with her parents, eight brothers and one sister. She married Edward K. Hieb Oct. 7, 1929, and they settled on a farm in Lincoln Valley. She was a homemaker and loved taking care of her family. Ed and Julia raised two sons and three daughters. Julia moved to McClusky after Ed passed away in 1973.
Her favorite things were cooking and baking and she took much pleasure in making family members or visitors their favorite German dishes such as Kase Knoepfla or Strudel. Julia enjoyed gardening, producing bountiful harvests of vegetables and displays of flowers. She also sewed special dresses for "her girls", made afghans, doilies and other beautiful handcrafts. She was devoted to her church, St. John's Lutheran in McClusky. She loved to tell her children and grandchildren about the years of growing up on the farm. Julia had such a great way of story telling, she managed to make everyone look at the funny side. The staff of the Sheridan Memorial Home in McClusky, and the Bismarck Baptist Home, loved her sense of humor as well. We deeply appreciate the love and care she received from Sheridan Memorial and Bismarck Baptist Homes.
Julia is survived by three daughters, Elaine (W.L. Hap) Finck, Gold Canyon, Ariz., Beatrice (Emanuel) Schauer, Underwood, and Joyce (Jake) Dockter, McClusky; her son, Clyde (Noeme) Hieb, Elko, Nev.; eight grandchildren, Steve Finck, Pam (Steve) Walz, Kurt Finck, Lyn (Curt) Krecklau, Beckie (Kevin) Strege, Mark Helm, Craig (Kathy) Dockter and Clyde Hieb Jr.; 16 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Reinhold, Marana, Ariz.
Julia was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; her son, Melvin; her granddaughter, Renee Pape; her parents; her brothers, Jake, Emil, Charlie, Otto, Harold and Edward; her sister, Olivia; and her son-in-law, Marvin Helm. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
