Death: Johannestal, Beresaner Gebiet, Region Odessa, Ukraine
Hans Leibbrandt:
! Information from Johannes Sayler Book pg 150 & 156a by Verine Reimann Ludwig died by suicide (hanging). Ludwig and his wife Maria were farmers, living near Eureka, SD. Their first children, Henry, Emma and Katharine were born were and another baby born after Katherine which died in infancy. The next child Louie was born born in 1897 in North Dakota as well as 5 more children. There was one more child, date unknown. Sometime before 1897 the family moved to Wells, County, ND> Obituary of Ludwig in Bowdon Guardian Newspaper Ludwig Sayler, a well to do farmer who lives about nine miles north of Bowdon commited sucide Tuesday afternoon, Jul r. As no cause has yet been found for this most ignoble act, it remains a mystery even to the members of the family. It seems as though, Mr Sayler had attempted to end his life in the barn in the morning but was found by Mrs Sayler who rescued him and took the rope away before it was too late. In the afternoon however, by means of a rope fastened to ten penny nails upstairs in the house he succeeded in carrying out his purpose.
Note: another newspaper article stated that he was despondant about financila hardships. Rumors were that Ludwig suffered from depression for several years, and had several disappointing experiences just prior to his death. One of these disappointments was the purchases of 30 horses, one of those horses had a disease which spread thru the herd, and they lost a lot of horses. Court records showed claims against the estate around $400.00. To the bank for horses and Calgary Sask for land. Ludwig's wife married 3 more times after his death. A Mr. Jorgreson, Mr. Schepp and 4th unknown.
