Reuben was born on 02 Jul 1926, in Sheridan County,N.D.,
The son of Friedrick and Lydia (Lemke) Gillig. He entered the U.S.Army in Jan 1945 and served in the South Pacific during WWII and was honorably discharged in December of 1946. Upon returning home, he farmed with his father near Wing, N.D. In May of 1971, Reuben married Ethel Fields in Mandan, N.D. and together they lived on the farm until the fall of 1986, when they moved to rural Wilton, N.D. They lived in Wilton until 2008, when they moved to Beulah, N.D. Reuben entered the Knife River Care Center, in August of 2009. He will be remembered there for his humor and wisdom. A highlight in his life occurred in Apr 2010, when he flew with fellow WWII Veteran on the Roughrider Honor Flight. He had a passion for guns, hunting and trapping.
He enjoyed horses and spending time with his two granddaughters.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel of Beulah; one son Kurt (Tammy) Gillig of Zap, N.D.; three step-daughters, Colleen (Doug) Alyea of Lincoln, N.D., Mary (Larry) Christensen of Ogden, Utah, Donna Brose of Gillette, WY; three step-sons, Bruce (Tina) Fields, Gene Fields and Ed (Brenda) Fields all of Casper, WY.; two granddaughters, Emma and Ava Gillig of Zap, N.D.; numerous step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; one brother Marvin (Shirley) Gillig of Regan, N.D.; many nieces and nephews.
Reuben was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Samuel and Robert Gillig.
