Notizen - Leibbrandt-com-leibbrandt_archive-Lybrand_USA-Sayler1:
! Johann lived with his daughter-in-law at Mosdock, Crimea when he died according to an old letter, so it is safe to sume he died in Mosdock and is buried there.
! Johann's birth is found in the St Petersburg Records for Grossliebental Parish on LDS Microfilm # This taken from book Jakob Hepper and His Descendants 1836-1990 by Betty Hepper Kluckmann page 97
! Johan was born and grew to manhood in Grossliebenthal, Odessa District, Cherson Province, South Russia. After his marriage to Katharina Sayler they migrated along with their children and other Hepper families to the Crimea in the late 1880's. It can be assumed that for about twenty years, they lived a fairly peaceful, hardworking life. They farmed in the northern Crimea and during harvest time, followed the harvest into the southern Crimea to work during threshing time. The Johann Heppers had probably acquired land and were prosperous, in land, if not in money, as Johann was later considered a "Kulak". Johann and Katharina Sayler had three sons, possibly four, in the Russian army; Jakob who was killed in the war, Henrich who was a ranking officer in the Russian army, and Rudolf who as a result of mistrust of Russia's own German soldiers, was sent to the Turish front. It is assumed that Johann went to the Caucasas about 1821. Johann's son, Johann wrote to relatives in America that his father had traveled from place to place in the Caucasas. One statement "He is today in Mosdock, tomorrow in Morgenthau, then in Saroma or someplace else." Johann Hepper was a hunted man in Russia! A Kulak! According to his granddaughter the authorities were looking for Johann, so he went from place to place trying to escape deportation or extermination. He stayed, occasionally with his son Friedrich, but when Friedrich was sent to work in a threshing machine station, Johann was no longer welcome in Friedrich's home. He died in or near Mosdock in the Caucasas in Friedrich's home. The family was so afraid of the authorities, that when Johann died they hid his body, and waited until after midnight to bury him on a hill, near the house. He died impoverished, but a free man.
