! Wishek, ND Diamond Jubilee Book pg 131 Walter attended ND State University from 1935 to 1940 and was employed by Universal Credit Co as Credit Manager from 1940 to 1941. He resigned to take employment with the US Army Engineers and served 2 years in a civilian capacity in the West Indies from 1941 to 1943. He returned home and took over mangement of Sayler Lumber Co until the end of 1945. During this period he purchased the Lyric Theatre and managed this until 1947 when he undertook a major building development in Wishek and built the present Dakota Theatre the post office and MD Utilities office. In 1949 he, together with other interested community people organized the Wishek Hospital Clinic Association and played a strong part in getting the new hospital built in Wishek. In 1954, Walter and his brother, Arthur purchased farming and ranch lands, cattle, equipment and airport property and formed the Dakota Investment Co. Walter was a 32nd degree Mason, member of St. John's congregational Church, Lions club, Wishek Association of Commerce, Wishek Golf Club, President of Wishek Retirement Home, and as President of the Bank for 19 years.
