Katherine Brod passed away Friday, July 6, at BeeHive Homes of Missoula at the age of 98. Katherine was born in Hazelton, ND to William and Emily Zimbelman. She was raised in North Dakota, graduating from Mott High School in 1937, then moving to Missoula in 1938.
In 1943, she married Wilfred Brod at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Missoula. They were married for 65 years. Right after their wedding, they moved to Portland, Ore. so Wilfred could work in the shipyards at Vanport. After living there for a couple of years supporting our nation's war effort, they returned to Missoula.
Katherine worked at St Patrick Hospital, Sears and Garden City Floral prior to working at Caras Nursery and Landscape where she was employed until her retirement.
Katherine was a very special lady and loved family life. She was a great homemaker and made wonderful cookies and pies, but some days her home even became a beauty shop where she gave perms and trimmed and styled hair. She also decorated her house for the holidays and made garden floral arrangements during the spring and summer months. Her home was also a frequent gathering place for family and friends. She and Wilfred always provided a comfortable, welcoming place for people to visit and stay. Weekends, she loved to go dancing with Wilfred and enjoyed many fishing trips.
Later in life, she loved going to the Women's Club for water exercise and for visiting other members who became her friends. To her joy, she received many cute hats as gifts which made for fun conversations wherever she went. We will all miss this adorable lady!
Survivors include her son Les (Marian) Brod of Eugene, Ore..; daughter Linda (Alan) Bare of Spokane, Wash..; her special granddaughters Sarah (Rob) Hawkins and Julia (Jeremie) Krehbiel; adorable great grandson Jack Krehbiel; devoted niece Laura Pahl of Missoula and other caring nieces and nephews.
