Walter H. Kruse, 88, of Grand Island died Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Primrose Retirement Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with a 10:15 a.m. family prayer service. The Rev. Jack Gillam will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in the Central City Cemetery. All Faiths Funeral Home is in
charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Kruse was born Nov. 12, 1924, on the family farm near Worms to Herman Bertha (Tuenge) Kruse.
His wife, Shirley, preceded him in death on July 30, 1989.
Survivors of the immediate family include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Roger Kruse of Omaha and Don and Char Kruse of Grand Island; a sister, Erna Pohlman of Pocatello, Idaho; and a sister-in-law, Louise Kruse of Westminster, Colo.
Also surviving include grandsons, Brian Kruse of Grand Island and Mark Kruse of Phoenix, Ariz.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and eight sisters.
Walter was raised on the family farm. He attended Zion Lutheran School at Worms. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. He entered the United States Navy having served in the South Pacific during WWII.
He was united in marriage to Shirley Senkbile on Aug. 4, 1946, in Central City. They made their home in Grand Island, where Walter owned and operated Walter Kruse Electrical from 1949 through 1981.
Memberships include Trinity Lutheran Church, Platt Duetsche and the Liederkranz. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with family members. He and his wife, Shirley loved going to dances throughout central Nebraska.
