Doris was born on July 29, 1929, on a farm north of Nysted, NE. to Steve F. and Bessie (Jacobsen) Larkowski. Doris married Lyle C. Leth on Feb. 19, 1951, at the Nysted Evangelical Church at Nysted. He died on Nov. 26, 2002. Survivors are: sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Carol Leth of St. Paul and Kenneth and Alene Leth of Aurora, Colo.; daughter and son-in-law, Kristine and Joe Alonge of Tonganoxie, Kan.; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gailord and Helen Larkowski of Fairfield, Tenn., Gerald and Peg Larkowski of Rogersville, Mo., the Rev. Lavern and Marilyn Larkowski of Omaha and Larry and Cheryl Larkowski of Ord; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and Jim Darling of Kearney and Kathy and Kirby Christensen of Ravenna; and sisters-in-law, Alberta Larkowski and Diana (Larkowski) Honore. Doris attended District 17 at Nysted and then attended Dannebrog schools for three years, graduating from Dannebrog High School in 1946. After high school, Doris worked in Grand Island at the Hall County Courthouse for one year before moving to St. Paul, where she began working at the Howard County Courthouse. After taking some years off for her children, she returned to the courthouse in 1963 and worked in both the county clerk's and the county treasurer's offices. She continued to work there for another 25 years before retiring in 1988. Doris served as a Howard County election official, counting votes for many years. She was active in the Howard County Historical Society and was a charter member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Her church was an important part of Doris' life. She was a Sunday school teacher, a council member, serving group leader and treasured being a member of Lois Circle for many years. Doris cherished her grandchildren and loved playing with them. She enjoyed going for long walks, trips to the farm with Lyle, her bowling team, Nebraska football and the game of baseball. She also loved reminiscing about the old days and growing up with 10 brothers and sisters. One of her greatest joys was getting together with them, telling and listening to stories of those days. In addition to her husband, Doris was preceded in death by parents; brothers, Donald and Daniel Larkowski; and sisters, Helen Reimers and Linda Zaruba. Inurnment was in the Elmwood Cemetery, St. Paul, NE.
