Funeral services for Alice E. Carlson, 79, of Chamberlain will be Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 10:30 am at the United Church of Christ in Chamberlain with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain. Visitation will be Wednesday beginning at 2:00 pm with a prayer service at 6:00 pm at the Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain.
Alice Elizabeth Frank was born March 16, 1933 in Herrick, SD to Fred and Ernestine (Ulmer) Frank. She graduated from Burke High School in 1951 and then attended school at Southern State Teacher's College in Springfield, SD that summer. After completing the six week course which the graduates became known as the "six week wonders," she began teaching at rural schools.
She played shortstop for the Southern State Teacher's College. Alice was united in marriage to Lowell Carlson in Burke, SD on July 22, 1953. Alice taught for two years and then began a career at the Brule County Courthouse with the Register of Deeds and Assessor's office.
She was active in the VFW Auxiliary. Alice enjoyed softball, gardening and fishing in her younger years. Later in life she enjoyed having coffee with her friends, playing cards, and baking cookies for her grandchildren and the neighbor's children.
Alice passed away on September 9, 2012 at her home in Chamberlain, SD at the age of 79 years. Gratefully sharing in her life are her husband, three sons Dennis (Muriel) Carlson of Chamberlain, SD, Rick (Cheri) Carlson of Kansasville, WI, and Lowell Jr. (Celia) Carlson of Rapid City, SD; two brothers Milton Frank and Elmer Frank; one sister Erna Carlson; five grandchildren Robin and husband Zered, Phil, Samantha, Bryant, and Anja.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers Gilbert Frank and John Frank; three sisters Leona Allum, Viola Waterbury, and Sara Goodman.
