RALPH SHOCKEY, 61, Smithsburg R.D. 3, died suddenly at 8 a.m. today at the Waynesboro Hospital. He had been ill since January, 1964, and had undergone surgery at Church Home Hospital in Baltimore. He returned to his work in March. He was admitted to the hospital Tuesday.
He was born at Smithsburg, a son of the late Welty and Annie Barkdoll Shockey and lived his entire life in the Ringgold vicinity.
He and his brother, Lloyd Shockey, operated orchards and farmed in the Ringgold area, known as Shockey Brothers.
Several years ago they discontinued fruit growing.
He was a member of the Welly Church of the Brethren, was a trustee of the church and member of the Mack Bible Class.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mildred Pittman Shockey; two sons, Leroy P. Shockey, Smithsburg R.D. 3 and Henry H. Shockey, Waynesboro R.D. 4; two grandchildren; two brothers and a sister, Lloyd Shockey, Smithsburg R.D. 3; Earl Shockey, Cascade, and Mrs. Irene Harshman, Hagerstown R. D. 6.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Grove Funeral Home in charge of the Rev. Glenn Hackman. Burial will be in Ringgold Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 7 - 9 p.m.
