Å“Oscar Shore, who left San Jose with F.W. Tennant and Thomas Bodley, for South Africa last March died at Johannesburg yesterday. The brief information came by cablegram last night and sennt to his brother Harry Shore at Santa Clara. No details are given but it is probable that unless due to accident, death was caused by typhus fever whichh is so prevalent and invariably fatal there.
Å“The deceased was 28 years of age. He was born in this county and was certainly one of the most widely and best liked young men of the county. He was a Deputy Sheriff under George Y. Bollinger when Fred Tennant and Thomas Bodley occupied positions with him. They made the trip to the Sout African Republic together but Tennant and Bodley returned about three months ago, not saisfied with the dangers to life there notwithstanding the prospects for wealth.
Å“The deceased would not return with them but determined to become a mining expert and had secured good positions in that line. Lately he had been employed at Krugersdorf at a mine over which Robert Curnow, brother of Dr. Curnow of this city, is Superintendent and late advices from him were to the effect that he intended going to Madagascar.
œHarry Shore today sent word to arrange to have the remains exhumed and returned here as soon as the law will permit. The body would have been ordered embalmed and shipped at once if the emblaming could be done there, but that process of preserving bodies is not known there and only the primitive modes of burial are in vogue.
