Leontine "Tina" Marie Benton, 88, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, June 2007. A resident of Albuquerque for 61 years, she was born in Dallas, TX on May 18, 1919.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Bruce; son, Jim, of Auburn, WA; daughters, Peggy and husband, Wayne Lipps, of Napa, CA, Barbara and husband, Fred Ellis, of Santa Fe, NM, Sylvia and husband, Eric Livingston, of Washington, DC, and Teresa and husband, Mark Campbell, of San Pedro, CA; grandchildren, Holly Lacey, Amanda Wilson, Ryan Ellis, Rachel Ellis, Austin Campbell, and Margaret Campbell; great-grandchild, Adrienne Lacey; and sisters, Betsy Davis and Nancy Ladowski.
Tina was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Peggy and Madaline; and brothers, Bruce, Chuck, and Joe.
After graduating from North Dallas High School, she attended Southern Methodist University on scholarship. She married Bruce Benton on March 6, 1943 while he was stationed in the Army Air Corps at Love Field.
They moved to Albuquerque in 1946. She was the ultimate multi-tasking mother and homemaker devoting herself to her husband and children and their many and varied activities. She loved her family and was especially fond of her grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
She retired from the University of New Mexico as the Associate Director for Research. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, New Mexico Retired Educators, and Daughters of the American Revolution. After retiring, she gave generously of her time, volunteering at the North Valley Senior Center.
