Previous to that he was a resident of the Lutheran Home in Eureka, SDsince June 25, 1964. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, October 21, 1964 at 2: pm fromthe Evangelical United Brethren Church in Artas, SD. The Rev. Johnnie Walter of Herreid and Rev. Clarence Knoepfle of Ashley, NDofficiated and interment was in the Artas Cemetery in Campbell County, SD with Straub's Funeral Home of Eureka in charge of arrangements. John was born December 22, 1876 in Russia the son of John Kautz, Sr. and Margaret Kost. On January 14, 1897 he was united in marriage to Rosena Krause with the Rev. H. Reinhardt officiating in Hoffnungstal LutheranChurch, south of Artas. The couple made their home on a farm one and one half mile southeast of Artas where they resided until 1944 when the retired and moved to Artas SD. Survivors include for sons, Henry (Helen Diede) of Ashley, ND; William (EllaSchweigardt) of Artas; Calvin (Emma Zimmerman) of Edgemont, SD and Ernest (Emma Kauk) of Aberdeen, SD; five daughters, Miss Esther Kautz, Eureka; Mrs. Ernestine (Emil Ackerman) of Eureka; Mrs.Lydia (Edwin Zimmerman) of Artas; Mrs. Julia (Art Fischer) of Aberdeen, SD; Mrs. Rosie (Albert Berreth) of Atas. Also Surviving are 35 grandchildren and 51 great grandchildren. One sister, Mrs Gust (Emelia) Gall of McIntosh, SD and one brother, Gottlieb Kautz of Aberdeen, SD. Preceding him in death were his, Rosena on April 6, 1964, his parents and for sons.Pallbearers were: LaVern Zimmerman, Ervin Knoepfle, Ervin Marzalf, Walter Kautz, Robert Kautz and Lester Berreth
