Anna Elisabetha Bockels (as her name was spelled in church records in Germany) was the daughter of Johann Adam Bockel, formerly an inhabitant of Friedelsheim, Germany.
She married Johann Ludwig Klemmer January 24, 1742, Alsheim-Gronau, Germany, and they emigrated to America on the ship Neptune in 1751. Their marriage was recorded in the Reformed Church book, Meckenheim, Germany.
At the time of the French and Indian War (1756-1763), known as the Seven Years War in Europe, Ludwig and Elisabeth Klemmer had a child who accidentally drown. As they were returning from her funeral on August 20, 1756, they were attached by Delaware Indians near Huyets Crossing, Maryland. Ludwig Klemmer was killed and Elisabeth and two sons were captured. The following day as they were being moved to Wills Mountain, located west of Cumberland, Maryland, Elisabeth was killed as she supposedly tried to escape.
At the end of the French and Indian War, brothers Valentine Klemmer and Lawrence Klemmer were released. Several of the Klemmer children were appointed guardians during this time.
