Henry J Rucklos, a pioneer citizen of Thayer county, died at his home in Deshler Sunday night, after several week's illness resulting from a paralytic stroke, aged 80 years, 10 months and 12 days. He leaves a wife and eleven children. All of the children have been here during this illness and all but one son, John, were present at the funeral.
Mr. Rucklos was born in Germany, but came to this country when twenty-two years of age. After four years he returned to his former home and was married to Miss Frederike Dauner. They came to Indiana, near Decatur, where they resided for fourteen years. they then moved to Thayer county, locating on a homestead near Friedensau, now occupied by a daughter, Mrs. Wm. Lierman. Eleven years ago, they moved to Deshler. In 1910 Mr. and Mrs. Rucklos celebrated their golden wedding. The family consists of eleven children, as follows: Mrs. Lizzie Eyden, of Lincoln; Mrs. Emma Schmidt, of Deshler; Mrs. Sarah Lierman of Friedensau; Ferdinand of Lincoln; Ed. of Long Beach, California; Mrs. Amil Ehlers, of Deshler; Mrs. Lydia Bundenthal, of Waterloo, Iowa; Mrs. Henry Nehrig, of this place; John, of Bloomington, Illinois, and Henry and August in business here. There are forty grand children, and this is the third death in the entire relationship.
The funeral took place from St. Peters church Wednesday afternoon, the pastor, Rev. Wm. Cholcher conducting the service. Stores were closed during the service. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. The widow and children have the sympathy of all in the loss of a kind parent and old time citizen.
