Joan Zimbelman, 85, formerly of Murphysboro, passed away at 8 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2019, at the Centralia Manor in Centralia, Illinois.
Joan was born on April 26, 1934, in Murphysboro, to Thomas Riggio and (Sallie) Grace (Vaughn) Riggio.
After at least eighteen years, she retired from St. Andrew School in Murphysboro serving as a cook.
Mrs. Zimbelman was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, St. Andrew Altar Society, and Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary in Murphysboro, and a member of the V.F.W. Post # 7190 Ladies Auxiliary.
Joan married Gilbert "Gib" Zimbelman on August 11, 1967, in Murphysboro, and he preceded her in death on September 24, 1986.
She is survived by two children and their spouses, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two sisters and one brother.
She was preceded in death by two sisters Margaret Ann Riggio and Reva Grace Snook, one brother in law Larry Schneider, and her parents.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2019, at St. Andrew Catholic Church and burial at St. Andrew Cemetery.
