SCHLIMMER, Florence L (Zimbelman)
Florence went to sleep peacefully on July 12, 2009 at Odessa Memorial Healthcare Center - Long Term Care. She was born May 6, 1920 at the family home north of Odessa and Marlin to Gustav and Emma (Kallenberger) Zimbelman and was oldest of nine children. She graduated from Marlin High School in 1938. She married Roger V Schlimmer on October 9th, 1940 and had four children, Rodney, Laurel (Birdie), Clarke and a baby boy who passed away shortly after birth. Roger and Florence lived most of their years together in the Marlin area. In 1980, Florence moved to Odessa where she worked at Odessa Memorial Healthcare Center part time. In 1988, her life turned upside down when she contracted meningitis. Through multiple health battles over the past 21 years, she showed most people how to get past adversity with a good attitude. She lived with her son Clarke (& Barb) until his passing and then entered the Long Term
Care Center. Florence was a life-time member of the Canawaii Grange and Odessa VFW Auxiliary #7395 and a member of the Odessa Historical Society. Hobbies included crocheting, crosswords and collecting owl figurines.
Preceding her in death were a baby boy born in 1948(?), husband Roger (1979), son Clarke (2000), sisters Viola Syring and Ione (Tootie) Zeiler, brothers Leo (Snooky) and Melvin, brother-in-law Donny Zeiler & two great-grandchildren Ethan & Kendall.
Florence is survived by two children - Rodney (& Linda) Schlimmer of McMinnville, TN, Laurel(Birdie) (& Clayton) Iverson of Edmonds, WA and her daughter-in-law, Barbara Schlimmer of Odessa, WA; seven grandchildren - June-Ellen (& Jimmy) Blanks of Tullahoma, TN; Rob Bell of Blair, NE, Todd (& Jamie) Burns of Marysville, WA, Shawn (& Gordon) Friang of Mt Lake Terrace, WA, Megan (& Dan) Hicks of Lynwood, WA; Erika(Andrew) Miner of Sunrise, FL and Jody (Joe) Silva of Lynnwood, WA; 17 great-grandchildren - Dean Blanks; John Joseph (J.J.), Ashley & Mitchell Bell, Giana & Jamison Burns; Jacob, Rachel, Gabriel, Zachary and Joshua Friang, Hannah & Kyra Hicks;, Chelsey & Riley Minor; Sara & Jordan Silva. Also surviving is one sister, Rhea Strate of Spokane, three brothers, Herb Zimbelman and Robert Zimbelman of Odessa, Don (Schatz) Zimbelman of Othello; one sister-in-law, Shirley Zimbelman of Almira, brother-in-law Loren (& Marg) Schlimmer of Odessa and brother-in-law Bob Syring of Spokane; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Memorial services will be held at the Heritage Church in Odessa at 302 East 1st Avenue on Saturday, August 1st at 11 am with Pastor Jon Hayashi officiating. Internment at the Odessa Cemetery will follow.
