This family with 5 children left Antwerp. Belgium aboard the vessel SS Zeeland. Their aim was to join the John Schatz family in Odessa, Washington, who was the brother of Mrs. Zimbelman. They arrived at Ellis Island on Oct 33, 1901. They ahd to remain there for several days as when they arrived in the USA, Mr. Zimbelman had only $13.00 in his pocket. After receiving money from their Odessa relatives, they made their way as far as Sutton, Nebraska where they worked long enough to earn their fare to Loveland, Colorado. Here, they worked in the sugar beet fields for Mr. Boetcher. A short time later, they were able to continue to Odessa, Washington. They lived with the Schatz family until they could arrange for a homestead tract and built a house on the site. The homestead was located near the present Bob Kuch farm northesast of Marlin, Washington. Here the older boys helped their father to clear land and raise wheat and cattle plus taking jobs around the countryside when work was available. After 11 years of farming, Mr. & Mrs. Zimbelman retired and moved to Odessa until 1924 when Mr. Zimbelman died.
