Ellen G. Idler Abel, 85, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 1996 at Royal Vista Care Center in Ellensburg.
Ellen was born in Bowman, North Dakota on March 15, 1911, the daughter of Gilbert and Lena (Rusten) Hjelm.
She was married to Jack Idler in September 1928 in North Dakota, where they farmed until 1960 when they moved to Ellensburg. After Mr. Idler's death in 1964, Ellen worked at Central Washington University for seven years. Ellen and Victor Abel were married in December of 1969.
Among her many enjoyments were playing cards and bingo. She was a member of Eagles, the Moose Lodge and a member of the Grandmothers Club.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Hazel and Ernest Hendrickson of Desert Aire; grandchildren, Barry (Silvia) Hendrickson of Anacortes, Robert (Teri) Hendrickson of Ellensburg, Steven (Cyndi) Hendrickson of Vancouver, and Teresa Loud of Great Falls, Montana; brothers Elmer (Floral) Hjelm of Hamilton, Montana and Herbert Hjelm of Lynnwood; sisters, Dora Flaskerud of Longview; Clara Miller of Vancouver, and Irene Gamble of Moses Lake; seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, brothers George and Lawrence Hjelm, sisters Emma Taylor and Aleda Ludlum and three great grandchildren.
Viewing will be held at Stewart and Williams Chapel on Friday, July 26, 1996 from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and again on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 27 at Stewart and Williams Chapel in Ellensburg. Reverend David Droegemueller will officiate. Concluding service will follow at High Valley Cemetery.
