Gottlieb married Katherina (nee unknown) in 1886 in Johannestal, Beresan, Odessa, South Russia. Gottlieb at the age of 52 with his wife, Katherina and their children; Gottlieb, Magdalena, Christian, Jacob, Heinrich, Andreas, Johann and Karl (Charles), immigrated to America via Bremen, Germany on the 12th of March 1910 aboard the SS "George Washington" and arrived at Ellis Island, New York on the 21st of March 1910. The family's final destination was recorded as Hebron, North Dakota to join Gottlieb's brother, Jacob Staiger.
