Funeral services for A.M. Eisenbraun will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Centerville United Church of Christ. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Wass Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
August Martin A.M., Izzy, Ike Eisenbraun was born November 16, 1918 in Tripp, SD to Martin and Christina (Fischer) Eisenbraun. He died April 13, 2009 in Viborg, SD at the age of 90 years, four months and 27 days.
August grew up on the family farm near Tripp where he attended Maag Country School and graduated from Tripp High School. He attended Southern Normal at Springfield and was a teacher at the country schools of Darlington, Torry Lake and Joubert. He married Gladys Beebe on December 14, 1940 at Bristow, Nebraska. August worked as manager of Fullerton Lumber Co. in Hettinger, ND, Corsica, Kimball and Platte, SD. He was the manager of Independent Lumber Co. in Centerville and eventually Sioux Falls.
Izzy loved fishing, hunting and bowling. Ike was an avid gardener and sports fan. He was a referee for basketball games in Platte and Hettinger, an umpire for baseball games in Hettinger and Kimball and a baseball coach for Jr. Legion in Platte. August was a long time member of the Rotary Club at Hettinger, Centerville and Sioux Falls. He was a member of the Commercial Club. While serving as president of the Centerville Commercial Club he presided as Master of Ceremonies when the Good Samaritan Center was dedicated.
Grateful for having shared his life is his wife, Gladys of Centerville; four children, Janice Lee (Ronald) Hoffman of West Fargo, ND, Douglas (Mona) Eisenbraun of Virginia Beach, VA, Robert (Mary) Eisenbraun of Denison, IA and Gary (Kristy) Eisenbraun of Colorado Springs, CO; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and one brother, Gerhardt (Jean) Eisenbraun of Bullhead City, AZ. Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers, Ted, Eric, Chris and Herb and two sisters, Martha and Ann.
