Death came to William M. Eckel, 83, a lifelong resident of Butler county, at his home in Douglass, from a heart attack.
Mr. Eckel was born January 18, 1873 in Butler county, Kansas and had lived in the county all his life, most of it on the farm, moving to town two and a half years ago. The Eckel farm was at the old Dunn Mill site, south of town.
Mr. Eckel was a member of the Methodist church.
Surviving are his wife Ruth; one son John, Schenectady, New York; two daughters, Mrs Julia Taylor, Douglass and Alice Hadwiger, Alva, Oklahoma; two sisters, Mrs, George McIntire, Wichita; and Mrs. Eva Doornbos, ElDorado; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday March 4, at 3 p..m . from the Douglass Methodist church conducted by Rev. Karl O. Magnusson and Rev. Robert Langston. Singers were DeLoss Olmstead, Richard Taylor, Sidney Olmstead and Joe L. Guyot, Mrs J.C. Seal accompanist
Burial was in Douglass cemetery in charge of Hilyard Funeral Home. Bearers were Onon Vandergriff, W.G. Kunkel, Leon Broyles, David Whitney, Harry Robinson, A.W. Scott.
