- Iles Funeral Homes:
Jeffrey Michael Zimpleman, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly while traveling in Germany on May 29, 2014. He was 36 years old.
Jeff was born in Des Moines in 1977 to Larry and Kathleen Zimpleman, grew up in Clive, and graduated at the top of his class from Valley High School in West Des Moines in 1996. He went on to earn a degree in chemistry with honors from Dartmouth College in 2000, received a master's of science degree in the same subject from the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California in 2004, and his master's of business administration from Cornell University in 2006. He worked as a financial analyst for Ansell, an Australian manufacturer, and Capital One Financial Corporation, where he worked on algorithms to improve security measures for credit card customers.
Jeff was an avid world traveler, who visited six different continents, traveled north of the Arctic Circle, and made frequent visits to both Germany and Brazil. He also loved to Jet Ski, sail, and parasail during his travels and at his family's home in Kona, Hawaii. When not traveling, he was a frequent moviegoer, a big fan of "The Simpsons," and an invaluable resource for his younger brothers and cousins who needed help understanding their science and math homework.
He is survived by his parents, Larry and Kathleen, of Cumming, Iowa, his brother, Christopher, of New York, New York, and a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas Zimpleman and Anne King, of Washington, D.C, and his Grandmother, Arlene Zimpleman, of Williamsburg, Iowa. Jeff is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who were very important in his life.
A celebration of Jeff's life will be held at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Norwalk (720 Orchard Hills Drive) with a visitation from 5 pm-7 pm on Thursday, June 5, and a Mass at 11 am on Friday, June 6.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Jeff may be made to Anawim Housing, Children and Families of Iowa, and Partners in Health.
