Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for Jacob Charles Steinhoff, 84, who died unexpectedly Wednesday morning of a heart attack at an Onawa hospital, where he had been taken the same morning.
Services were held at St. John’s Evangelical Reformed church near Hornick with Rev. Elmer Otte of the Mapleton Evangelical and Reformed church conducting the services in the absence of Rev. Henry Held.
Lester Harrison sang Beyond the Sunset and My Home Sweet Home with Mrs. Edwin Helming at the organ.
Pallbearers were Al Nordstrom of Sloan, Ed Claus of Smithland, Ralph Steinhoff of Oto, Ernie Clift, Tom O’Boyle and Bill Duncan of Hornick. Burial was in the Graceland Park cemetery under the direction of the Hilts funeral home of Sloan.
Jacob Charles Steinhoff was born October 9, 1870 at Woodsfield, Ohio. He died Wednesday, June 8 at an Onawa hospital. He was 84 years and eight months at the time of his death. He came with his parents to Iowa in 1881 and settled near German City. He was confirmed at the German City church 71 years ago last Pentecost Sunday. He married Anna Bell Unkel March 2, 1897 at German City. She preceded him in death on September 30, 1932.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Esther Adams and Miss Ada Steinhoff, both of Hornick; one brother, Herman Steinhoff of Smithland; four sisters, Mrs. Anna Claus and Mrs. Minnie King both of Hornick, Mrs. Alvina Eichhorn of Rodney and Mrs. Yetta Cox of Onawa. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
