Funeral services for Mrs. J.S. Egger, who died at her home on June 2, 1941, at the age of 84 years, 11 months, and 26 days, were held last Thursday at the German City church, Rev. W. W. Kramme officiating. Interment was in the cemetery there under the direction of Becker funeral home. Music was furnished by a quarter-Mrs. J. Peters, Mrs. Orval L. Cox, Lester Harrison, and Everett Persinger, accompanied by Mrs. Ed Helming.
Mrs. J.S. Egger, nee Steinhoff, was born in Monroe County, Ohio, on June 6, 1856. She was baptized in early infancy, and renewed her baptism vows in adolescent age at the time of her confirmation. These rites were conferred upon her by the Evangelical church.
On March 30, 1875, she was married to Jake Egger. To this union were born ten children, one son Henry, preceding her in death 38 years ago.
Mrs. Egger enjoyed good health until the last year when she sustained an injury from which she never completely recovered. During this time she received all the affection and care human hands could confer upon her.
The Eggers were among the early settlers in this community. She will be remembered as one of the founders of the German City Church. Her long time membership in the church will ever live in the heart of the congregation as a memorial to her.
Surviving are the widower, nine children, Albert of Dickens, Mrs. Oscar Koontz of Moville, Mrs. Louis Sulsberger, Mrs. Clarence Sulsberger, Charles, Edward, Lydia, Lyda, and Marie, all of Holly Springs; one sister, Mrs. Mathilda Rose of Bloomfield, Nebr.; 14 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mother: Juliane Christiane Louise Amalie (Yost) Just
