Ranatha Olinda (Schochenmaier) Burke of Bonesteel, SD passed away December 4, 2011 at the Butte Healthcare center at the age of 91.
Ranatha was born on October 28, 1920, one of nine children born to Katie (Wuest) and Fred Schochenmaier, at the family farm in northern Boyd County, Nebraska.
She attended school through the 8th grade and then went to work for Fred and Lilly Thoene, helping with the cooking and cleaning.
Ranatha was united in marriage to Bernard Burke on February 19, 1949. To this union 2 children were born: Bernita, whom died at birth and Terry. Bernard and Ranatha farmed by St. Charles until moving to Bonesteel in 1982.
Ranatha served as head of the St. Mary's altar society funeral committee for more than 20 years, a job she took pride in. Her 3 grandchildren were her pride and joy and she was always spoiling them with all her homemade goodies.
Ranatha went into assisted living and later to the Butte Nursing Home as her Alzheimer's progressed.
Ranatha is survived by her son Terry (Diane) of Bonesteel, SD; grandchildren: Ryan (Genevieve) of American Falls, ID; Jennifer (Cody) Krieger of Ft. Pierre, SD and Michael of St. Charles, SD. Also surviving her are her 2 great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Krieger of Sioux Falls, SD and John (JT) of Ft. Pierre, SD; a brother, Aldrew (Margie) Schochenmaier, a sister Anna Marie Cahoy, sisters-in-law: Lila Schochenmaier, Barbara Schochenmaier, Amanda Schochenmaier and Frances Schochenmaier and many nieces and nephews.
Ranatha has gone on to join her husband Bernard, infant daughter Bernita, brothers, Herman, Henry, Alvin, Albert, and Raymond Schochenmaier, her sister, Sarah Brown, sister-in-law, Amanda Schochenmaier, and sister and brother in law, Merrill (Hammie) and Berniece Hermsen.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bonesteel. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Bonesteel. There will be a rosary on Tuesday at 7:30 PM at the Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to both services at the Church.
