He attended Stoney Butte grade school near his home; and as a young man helped his parents on the ranch. He was baptized and confirmed at the Catholic Church in Strool, SD.
Mark was united in marriage to Bernice L. Hieb on August 20, 1960 at the St. James Catholic Church in Drew, SD. They began their life together on the family ranch and raised their four children there. Mark and Bernice expanded the ranching operation over the years with their son, Dan.
Mark loved the ranching style of life, the open prairies and the trees for wind break and to protect the cattle during storms. He had pride in his Angus cattle, calves and bulls and was very proud of them. Mark enjoyed his family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved hunting and fishing with them.
In 1998 Mark and Bernice retired and moved into Bison, SD. Mark still went out to the ranch to help his son, Dan, whenever he could. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Bison.
Mark was diagnosed with cancer on February 5, 2006, and fought a courageous battle until the Lord took him home. He was cared for at home, by his wife, whom he so faithfully loved and adored.
