WISHEK - Edwin Rath, 78, Wishek, died July 3, 2006, at Wishek Home for the Aged. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 6, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. Burial will be in Wishek City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek.
Edwin Rath, son of John J. and Martha (Lang) Rath, was born August 1, 1927, in the Wishek area. In 1928, he moved with his parents to a farm seven and one half miles northwest of Wishek. He attended country school in the Wishek area and started farming with his family. On Nov. 6, 1949, he married Helen Hauck. They farmed with his parents until 1961, when they purchased the family farm. In October 1988, they moved into Wishek.
Edwin continued to farm and ranch until 1998. Edwin was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, where he served as a trustee for two terms. He served as secretary of the rural fire department and also a director. He was a director of the Tri-County Fair Board and served in that capacity for many years. Edwin was a charter member of the Wishek Eagles Club. Edwin was also a member of the Wishek Lions Club and The Wishek Saddle Club.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, Wishek; one daughter, Carmen (John) Wald, Napoleon; three grandchildren, Whitney Nicole, Wyatt Andrew and Wade Daniel; one brother, Hilmer Rath, Wishek; and one sister, Luella (Reinhold) Lang, Ham Lake, Minn.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Weston John; his parents; and two infant siblings. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek)
