Mr. Lehr was born September 11, 1863 in Kassel, South Russia. He attended the public schools there and in the year of 1880 immigrated to the United States settling near Menno, South Dakota. In 1885 he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Olheiser (Ohlauser); and the following year moved northward taking up residence near Beaver Creek, Eureka, South Dakota. They resided there until 1895 when they moved to North Dakota and resided near and in Gackle. Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Lehr, two of them died in infancy. Besides his wife he leaves the following survivors: Fred Lehr, Jr., of Alfred, ND, Lydia, Mrs. A.M. Klein, Emil, and Katherine, Mrs. George Hummel of Gackle; Martha, who is in training at the Bismarck hospital; Aaron of Alfred; and Anna, Mrs. Ed Kroll of Fredonia; and Esther (later Mrs. Howard Bisbee), still at home. His mother Rosina Brandt died in 1877 Russia. Daughter, Martha, Mrs. Roy W. Hanson was born 10 Jun 1908 and died 7 Oct 1999 at Maricopa Co., Arizona, burial unknown.
