Edward Quenzer, 93, of Rapid City and formerly of Eureka, died at a Rapid City nursing home on Sunday, November 16, 2008. Edward was born on December 8, 1914, to Karl and Mary Steinback (Brockel)Quenzer in Campbell County, SD, and grew up in the area. In the 1930s he and his brothers traveled from farm to farm throughout Campbell County shearing sheep. In January 1936 Edward married Elizabeth Wiedmeier and they farmed, raising cattle and small grain. In June, 1960 Edward and Elizabeth were involved in a car accident taking Elizabeth's life and leaving Edward disabled for some time. In 1962 he married Leah Sieler Lindemann and continued to farm until 1976 when they moved to Eureka and Edward became semi retired still doing some farming and continuing to go to the farm everyday until Aug. 2001 when he suffered a stroke at the farm. He went to Rapid City to do his restorative therapy and lived at the Victorian assisted living until March 2008 when he entered the Golden Living Center Black Hills. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Eureka. Edward is survived by is 2 daughters, Helena Bauer, Rapid City and Donna (Robert) Covington, Athens, AL, 5 step-children, Oscar Lindemann, Rapid City, Alice (Jerome) Bertsch, Eureka, Florence Haberer, Aberdeen, Harvey (Marge) Lindemann, Pueblo, CO, and Ronald (Ruth) Lindeman, Colorado Springs, CO; 3 grandchildren, Sandra (Roger) Anderson, Spokane, WA, Peggy (Ken) Carder, Marshalltown, IAand Troy (Jennifer) Covington, Atlanda, GA. Also surviving are 15 step-grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 35 step great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Karl (Miriam) Quenzer, Mobridge and Albert (Alvina) Quenzer, Eureka, 2 sisters, Martha (Aaugust) Renz, Harried, SD and Irene Renz, Paul, ID, 2 sisters-in-law, Lizzie Quenzer, Herried and Frieda Quenzer, Eureka. He was preceded in death by his parents, his 2 wives, 5 brothers and 1 sister. Visitation will be one hour prior to services, which will be held on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Eureka with Pastor Gary Bergman officiating. Burial will be in the Eureka Cemetery.
