RICHARD 'DICK' ZIMBELMAN, 89 PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Richard "Dick" Zimbelman, 89, of Port Charlotte peacefully passed away on Feb. 9, 2010. Born June 21, 1920, in Duncomb, Iowa, to Edward Zimbelman and Ellen Hargraves Zimbelman. Dick was formerly of Oregon, Ill., and was a resident of Port Charlotte since 1983. He joined the Navy with his brother, Robert, on March 4, 1942. Richard and Orvene "Sally" Dorweiler were married in 1944. He enjoyed fishing, building cars and reading, he retired from the state of Illinois as laundry manager for Dixon State School for Mentally Handicapped. After retiring, he drove a tractor trailer for Raynor Garage Doors Co. Survivors include daughter, Jean A. Penn of Port Charlotte; sons, Steve (Pat) of Ohio and Gary (Harriet) of Texas; also four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Predeceased by parents; his wife of 59 years, Orvene; brother, Robert; and brother-in-law, Jack Sandy. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Inurnment in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church Memorial Garden at a later date.
