MARY ELIZABETH “Sweets” SUMMERS, 99, of Frederick, Md., passed away Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, at her home. She was the wife of the late G. Maynard Summers for 69 years. Born Sept. 21, 1916, in Hagerstown, she was a daughter of the late Emmert C. and Blanche E. Loudenslager Hawbecker.
For many years, Sweets was an officer and vice president for Summer Inc. She was a member of Centennial Memorial United Methodist Church, Frederick, and a life and charter member of the VFW, AMVETS and the YMCA. Sweets and Maynard spent winters in Florida and were avid travelers. In her teens, she enjoyed ice and roller skating, and swimming. Sweets’ favorite sport in later years was shopping and having coffee with the “McDonald’s Gang” in the morning.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Chester and Vincent Hawbecker; and sister, Ethel Crowther.
Funeral services will be held at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, Frederick. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
