R Gerald Fraser, 91, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 9:23 a.m., Tuesday, January 12th, while in the company of family members, at McPherson Health And Rehab.
Ralph was born on his parents’ farm near Belleville, Kansas, on July 13, 1924, a son of Lela Cora (Bowersox) and Ralph Eadie Fraser.
Gerald attended the Belleville Center grade school, and graduated from Belleville High School, Belleville, Kansas in 1942. He then attended Kansas State College, Manhattan, Kansas.
Gerald was a member of First United Methodist Church, McPherson. He was a former member of the United Methodist churches in both Belleville and Concordia and the United Church of Kensington.
Gerald honorably served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a lieutenant during WW II as a B-17 bomber pilot.
Gerald was a farmer and later worked for a cooperative in Belleville and Concordia until 1973, when he became the general manager of the Kensington Cooperative Association until his retirement in 1986, when he and Pat moved to McPherson.
Gerald was a member of American Legion Post 24, McPherson Light Capital Singers, McPherson Barbershop Chorus, McPherson Lions Club, and various Bridge Clubs.
Ralph Gerald Fraser was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Clark on September 22, 1945 at Belleville Methodist Church, Belleville, Kansas. They established their first home together on the family farmstead southwest of Belleville.
Gerald is survived by his sons, Michael “Mike” Fraser and his wife, Jeanie, of Garden City, Kansas, John Fraser and his wife, Ruth, of McPherson, Kansas, and Gerald “Gary” D. Fraser and his partner, Steve Schoenecker, of Wichita, Kansas; his sister Ruth Wilber, and her husband, Charles, of Belleville, Kansas; his 4 grandchildren, Mark Fraser and his wife, Anne, Ann Miller and her husband, Scott, Sarah Fraser, and Kate Fraser; his 4 great-grandchildren – Kalen Fraser, Eric Fraser, Jarrod Miller, and Hailey Miller; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Lela Fraser; his wife, Patricia Ann Fraser; a brother, Ray Fraser; a sister, Mary Bruchie; and a daughter-in-law, Kathi Fraser.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m., on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at Glidden – Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church, McPherson, Kansas with Reverend Quentin Bennett officiating. Military honors will be presented by members of the American Legion Post 24 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 both of McPherson.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 15th, 2016, at the Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, Kansas with Pastor Harold Nelson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church McPherson or the McPherson County Humane Society and they can be sent in care of the Glidden – Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid Street; McPherson, Kansas 67460.
