      Belleville (KS) Telescope - 17 Jun 1954
Mary Etta Barnhart, daughter of Josephine Branson and John Barnhart was born August 9, 1874, in Florida, Henry county, Ohio, and departed this life June 11, 1954, at her home in Belleville, Kan., at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 2 days. She came with her mother to Republic county in 1886 after the death of her father and has lived here continuously since. She received her education in the Belleville city schools.
She was married September 2, 1897 to Elmer E. Bowersox and to this union were born a son and two daughters, who together with her husband survive. They made their home on the David Bowersox homestead south of Belleville in December, 1927, where they have since resided.
Mrs. Bowersox was a member of the Belleville Christian church where she worked faithfully as long as her health permitted. She was for many years a member of the Women's Relief Corps and was a charter member of the W.W.W. club of Belleville center community. During the First World War, she worked actively in the Red Cross.
She is preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters and is survived by her husband and a son, Claude L., of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Lela Fraser and Mrs. Orphy Fry, both of Belleville; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Eberhart of Toft, Cal., and Mrs. Jennie Tate of Greeley, Colo., 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She gave cheerfully of her time and energy whenever there was need. She enjoyed life to the fullest and was never happier than when she was contributing to the happiness and fun of others. She loved children, not only her own, but all children and they recognized her love and understanding of them. She was a devoted wife and mother, a loyal friend and a sincere Christian.
Funeral services were held June 14 at the Central Christian church with the Rev. A.G. Hollowell officiating. Burial was in Belleville cemetery.
