Elna A. Janssen, 92, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the Countryside Home in Madison, Nebraska.
The funeral service will be Monday, March 10, 1:30 P.M. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 12.5 miles north, with Rev. Brad Birtell officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Monday from 12:30 - 1:30 P.M. at the church with a family prayer service at 1:15 P.M.
Elna Janssen was born January 18, 1922, in Platte County, Nebraska, to Johan Fred and Wilhemina Louise (Rosche) Siefken. She attended school in Altona and graduated from Wayne High School in 1940. Elna moved to Kearney where she worked as a secretary. On November 18, 1945, Elna was united in marriage to Elmer H. Janssen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Altona, Nebraska. They moved to a farm southeast of Humphrey where they farmed for many years. After moving into Columbus in 1981, Elna went to work at Bluebird doing alterations before she started Elna's Sewing Academy. Elna loved to sew, do needlework, bake, and work in her garden. She was an active member of the St. John's Lutheran Church where she belonged to several organizations. Elna also liked playing cards, games, and spending time with her family and friends.
