Arlene Zimbelmann:
Translated KGB records in Nikolaev Museum-information received in 2002 during visit by Robert and Arlene Zimbelman. According to their records his family was: wife, Katherina; daughters Rosa, Luise,Katherina; and son Heinrich. He was arrested and property was confiscated consisting of land, 2 horses, 2 cows. In 1930, he had 15 hectare and leased 30 hectares with 5-6 horses and 3 cows. He was a church leader who in 1933 during famine in Ukraine went to German consul with request to help community of Rohrbach with foodstuffs. With German marks, he bought food in Odessa and distributed it to the community. He corresponded with relatives from Germany, so was accused of being a member of a fascist sabotage community. He was convicted and sentenced for shooting on Aug 10, 1937 and shot 0n Aug 18,1937. He was rehabilitated (record cleared) in 1959 when the new Russian leadership wanted to distance itself from the past regime. His brother,Friedrich, was also arrested in 1937 and sentenced to ten years labor camp. On his release, he wrote to KGB and asked about Heinrich. He was told that Heinrich had died in labor camp despite this record showing he was shot.
